The Black Pearl Academy: August 2014
http://niffercoo.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 23, 2014. And away we go. We are 2 full weeks into the school year and have added Riley's new dance studio and Reece's dance/drama. This coming week, Riley will add her outside classes and then we'll be at our full workload and schedule. Of course, I still have 5 weeks of training left for my Half Ironman - these next 2 weeks being the most intense and high mileage. But we're making it through! There is only one of me. That is the biggest problem! Math U See Geometry is, so far, working ...

The Black Pearl Academy: April 2015
http://niffercoo.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Cross-post: I can't do this. This entry was originally posted on my training blog, Running Through the Castle. But I think it's applicable in the homeschooling/autism world as well. Please note that it has not been edited or proof-read before it was published. Unfortunately, that moment started me on a dangerous path. If I couldn't do something right away, I just didn't try again. I can't do this. I did what I had always done with new situations - I read and researched. "Wh...

The Black Pearl Academy: School Year 2015-2016 plans
http://niffercoo.blogspot.com/2015/07/school-year-2015-2016-plans.html
Thursday, July 23, 2015. School Year 2015-2016 plans. Well, after a busy summer with lots of excitement, it is time for me to start looking towards the new school year. I finally placed my book order over the weekend and the books are starting to trickle in. Riley will be an 11th grader this coming school year. So hard to believe that she is a Junior! Writing is the big one for her - the one I really want to focus on. I have so many good curricula for writing and I can't decide which to try first....

The Black Pearl Academy: Austin and the ACT
http://niffercoo.blogspot.com/2015/02/austin-and-act.html
Sunday, February 01, 2015. Austin and the ACT. Reason #1 - Georgia homechool laws say he needs to be tested this year. So what's the point? That brings me to the next reason. Reason #2 - Because everyone else is doing it. So taking the SAT is something everyone that Austin knows is doing, or has already done. He took the PSAT last year in 11th grade because everyone else was doing it - and it was great for him! He could talk about it with his friends on Facebook. They all had the PSAT in common. By click...

The Black Pearl Academy: October 2014
http://niffercoo.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 26, 2014. Being a mom to a grown up is. So, I've been a mom to a adult now for a little over 5 months. And what is my verdict on being the mom to a grown up? My grown up kid - Senior Year photo shoot for the yearbook. They are actually working him full time because they are short-handed. Which brings me to the first reason it's horrible. I want to march into that grocery store and tell them to stop working my baby boy 40 hours a week while he's trying to do his Senior Year lessons! And al...

The Black Pearl Academy: Spring Break 2015
http://niffercoo.blogspot.com/2015/04/spring-break-2015.html
Thursday, April 09, 2015. Ahhh, Spring Break! Even though our school year has only 5 weeks remaining, we decided to go ahead and take Spring Break. I had envisioned 5 days of rest and relaxation, but when you have teenagers that is simply not happening. Austin hasn't had nearly so exciting of a Spring Break - he is working full time this week so that means lots of sleep during the day. Welcome to adulthood, kiddo! LOL I have so many things to share that I think are important, and I simply don't have the ...
