A Reading Horse: June 2015
http://fhbookblog.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Sisterhood of Traveling Pants, Book 1) by Ann Brashares. Read, reviewed, and released in May, 2013. A teen coming-of-age novel involving the friendship of four girls united by the accident of birth (their mothers were in the same prenatal aerobics class) and a seemingly magical pair of old blue jeans found at a thrift store. Funny, I found this book at a thrift store! Sister of the Traveling Pants. Book image courtesy of Google Books. After the d...

A Reading Horse: August 2015
http://fhbookblog.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 24, 2015. Night Ride Home, by Vicki Covington. I have mixed emotions about this book. It was fairly interesting to read, but none of the characters really "grabbed" me. What I liked best about it, I think, is that it was set near Birmingham, Alabama, where I lived for 34 years. I recognized many of the places, and the one trip into the city was particularly interesting for that reason. Friday, August 21, 2015. A Child Who Reads . A Reading Horse: American Meteor, by Norman Lock
http://fhbookblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/american-meteor-by-norman-lock.html
Saturday, July 18, 2015. American Meteor, by Norman Lock. American Meteor" could describe the protagonist of this novel, Stephen Moran, or the railroads that spanned the continent, or the US's declared "Manifest Destiny", or even Walt Whitman (quoted in the frontispiece "What am I myself but one of your meteors? The author takes a few liberties with actual historical events, as he freely admits in "Acknowledgements". Your comments, please. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan.

Thoughts of a fancy horse: Someone's Praying for Me
http://fancyhorse.blogspot.com/2011/03/someone-praying-for-me.html
Thoughts of a fancy horse. Sunday, March 6, 2011. Someones Praying for Me. Suburban and trailer totalled. Originally uploaded by Fancy Horse. The title of this entry is one of my favorite hymns. Ricky Skaggs on YouTube. I just learned it a few years ago, and it has meant so much. In fact, it was true for us in 2007 when we had this accident. It was before I started this blog, and I have never written here about it. I felt like I should do that now, for a couple of reasons. As I said in your LJ, I wanted ...

Thoughts of a fancy horse. March 7, 2015. One of three artworks in Montgomery, Alabama commissioned to honor the Voting Rights Marches of 1965). This month we are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the march for voting rights from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Video from Los Angeles Times. Eyes on the Prize, from Public Television's American Experience. Selma to Montgomery Marches, Wikipedia article. What has changed in fifty years? I will say I was saddened that a man could shoot and kill and unarmed...

Thoughts of a fancy horse: June 2015
http://fancyhorse.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a fancy horse. Thursday, June 18, 2015. Just a few days ago, I enjoyed reading a "Love Letter" from a friend to her beloved adopted home town, Charleston, South Carolina. Low Country Love Letters. And last night I was shocked and dismayed by the terrible news from that city; a young man attended a prayer meeting, and shot and killed nine church members as they were gathered in prayer at the church. It appears to have been a racist hate crime. The suspect is now under arrest. Links to this post.

Thoughts of a fancy horse: Thankfulness
http://fancyhorse.blogspot.com/2009/11/thankfulness.html
Thoughts of a fancy horse. Sunday, November 29, 2009. I posted these thankfulness entries last year, November 2008, but I am still thankful! 1 Today I am thankful for the beauty of God's creation - the deep blue sky this time of year, the color in the leaves, all the trees and the water all around us. We are special friends with another couple in our church, and the wife is in my SS class. We get together for meals and games. The guys enjoy garage sales and fishing. I am truly blessed with good friends!

A Reading Horse: Killer Keepsakes, by Jane K. Cleland
http://fhbookblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/killer-keepsakes-by-jane-k-cleland.html
Saturday, July 18, 2015. Killer Keepsakes, by Jane K. Cleland. Cover image courtesy of LibraryThing. A delightfully well-written cozy mystery featuring the owner of a quaint New Hampshire antique shop and auction house. Her small group of employees are like family, so it is especially upsetting when her friend and assistant has not returned from work after her Hawaiian vacation. Even more distressing is the sight of a dead man on the missing woman's living room sofa! Jane K. Cleland. Your comments, please.
