G Travels: August 2008
http://mike-gregory2.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Born in Essex, live in London, itchiest of feet. Monday, 18 August 2008. I headed through a typical British shopping center full of tracksuited teens and concrete canopies. Lady Godiva. Sat outside Burger King and Peeping Tom. Craned his neck for a sneaky eyeful. I ignored them both and, spotting a priest. Followed him into the old cathedral. And built another next door. Both are symbols of their respective skylines and the cities are formally twinned. Phrase sits at one end but several of the timber-fra...

Born in Essex, live in London, itchiest of feet. Tuesday, 16 December 2014. There’s a cheap back door into Azerbaijan unlocked by Wizz Air. Flights are via Budapest where I stopped off to bathe at the Gellert and rode the Children’s Railway through the Buda hills in rain which never relented. My time in Baku started with a grilling in passport control. 8220;I see you were in Armenia. Why? My first impression of the city was. 65279;. 65279;. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

G Travels: April 2009
http://mike-gregory2.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Born in Essex, live in London, itchiest of feet. Thursday, 30 April 2009. Pixel im Hof, Linz, Austria. 8220;It is an unusual room,” says my contact at the Pixel-Hotel in Linz. I’m a little flustered having missed a bus connection from the airport and then losing my way in the evening drizzle. I collapse onto an uncomfortable wire chair as she demonstrates keys and lights. “Don’t forget the cloakroom is in the industrial elevator,” she says. “Bye! The Pixel im Hof. A wall of lights. Runs behind the carava...

G Travels: Rock in Vaduz
http://mike-gregory2.blogspot.com/2014/01/rock-in-vaduz.html
Born in Essex, live in London, itchiest of feet. Wednesday, 22 January 2014. Vaduz is a neat village masquerading as a capital city and I stayed a night while hopping between Austria and Switzerland. Pricey business hotels lined the main street but cheaper accommodation lay just outside the centre and I was drawn in by a tall brick B&B sporting a wall of blinking flashbulbs. The manager of the pension was a little unwelcoming; “Rock band” he said glumly, and pointed to the floor. 8221; shouted the singer...

G Travels: October 2008
http://mike-gregory2.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Born in Essex, live in London, itchiest of feet. Tuesday, 28 October 2008. Was full of places to eat. Even vegetarians could dine in public. It reminded me a little of Brighton; the royal-patronised seafront shielding lanes of bars and cafes. In front of the town hall was a shock though; a large statue of Franco. Astride a horse [admittedly Brighton doesn. 8217;t have the atmosphere I was looking for. Instead I headed west through rural Cantabria. And back in time, to medieval Spain. Hell is other people.

Born in Essex, live in London, itchiest of feet. Monday, 29 September 2008. Albania - Sarandë and Butrint. A wiry old man latched onto me as I pulled my rucksack from the bus in Sarandë. 8221; he asked. “No,” I said and shook my head. Ten steps down the road he was hot on my tail, “Hotel? 8221; “No! 8221; I said again and shook my head with more vigour. Still he followed. For my whole life I’ ve. There’s an undercurrent of Italian culture in Sarandë. Was even named after Mussolini’s daughter, Eda, ...
