A diary of outdoor endeavours. Monday, 22 February 2010. And we were off to Deer Gallows, a small crag none of us had yet visited and was slightly out of the way. Although tempted by Almscliff, winking at us from the horizon, we continued into unknown regions known as Skipton,. Monday, 15 March 2010. 8216;Hurry up Conor, Huw’s coming as well now and I want to be there by 2’…. The rest of the day saw me lead ‘central route (VS 4c* )’, a good test of keeping concentration when others are throwing moss and bad advice at you from above. A diary of outdoor endeavours. Friday, 2 July 2010. Towards the end of my 1st year at Leeds I tried to tie up the loose ends at my two local crags, Caley and Almscliff. I’ll begin with Caley. Two final trips with Bert and Conor saw me dash up Tip Off E2 5b. Its shorter than some of the boulder problems here so I feel obliged to not give myself my first E number). Unfinished crack and Boot crack were ascended and a solo here and there to fuel my obsessive ticking of the crag ended a good year.

Sadly we spent most the drive there wiping rain off the windscreen. The weather would have to try a little harder to stop us though…. The next day had much more favourable conditions, even the sun had decided to make an appearance. For some reason I had an urge to lead only slabs and jamming cracks, (what has gritstone done to me!
