After all, marriage is supposed to be like the relationship between Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5). Without the Gospel there would be no relationship between Christ and the Church (Ephesians 2). I want to focus on two things the Gospel allows in marriage. The Gospel allows you and your spouse to quickly confess sin.

Four months ago today Kenzie and I had the privilege of worshiping the Lord by making covenantal vows before both God and man. Marriage has been a blessing beyond what I can express. No parent should ever have to bury a child, especially a young child, especially a murdered child. This revolting and horrifying event is heartbreaking. Our prayers and condolences go out to the families and people involved in this terrible situation. Should more people be armed and have guns? Gun control is not the answer, Jesus is.

Using rhetoric like “challenge” induces the listener to feel as if they need to rise up and meet a certain standard. This is not the Gospel. The Gospel is not about us rising up to meet a standard or gain success. The Gospel is an invitation to be saved because Christ has done everything, and I have done nothing.
