part 2 of the Korean adventure: the Army
Bennett Baldwin: May 2006
http://bendthetruth.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Part 2 of the Korean adventure: the Army. Wednesday, May 24, 2006. I posted new pictures. Spring in Korea and pictures from Blair's visit. Wednesday, May 17, 2006. My brother Blair just visited me in Korea. He was only one person, wasn't as much of a respected guest like my parents were, and didn't have blond hair and wasn't the same age as my students, so he was able to get more of a real experience. Just going along for the ride with the host family. Not knowing who would show up for dinner or wher...

Bennett Baldwin: September 2006
http://bendthetruth.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
Part 2 of the Korean adventure: the Army. Wednesday, September 13, 2006. The PT test came and went last Thursday, and I did well. I hadn't taken a PT test in almost a year and a half, which is a long time in the army. This week we've been doing combatives, which in the beginning is Brazilian Jujitsu. Food for thought from today's "taking charge of a platoon" class: As an aspiring leader, when you're working under or with people, who do you learn more from? Bad leaders or good leaders? The start of BOLC II.

Part 2 of the Korean adventure: the Army. Tuesday, September 04, 2007. Picking up where I left off, I went to Wando, a small island off the southern coast of Korea for a great day at the beach. An ROTC cadet came to our unit for three weeks, and I had a great time showing him what I do, how to be an officer, what Korea is like, etc. It was a great chance to mentor someone young, something I'll be doing soon if my replacement actually comes like he is supposed to in October. The building I used to live in...
Bennett Baldwin: July updates
http://bendthetruth.blogspot.com/2007/07/july-updates.html
Part 2 of the Korean adventure: the Army. Thursday, July 19, 2007. I'm back from gunnery. It was three weeks in the "field" punctuated by one night back at Camp Casey. to clean up my room after the toilet in another room on the hall burst and flooded the entire floor. I say "field" because we got to stay in barracks and had showers (I made time for the showers every other day). My college roommate Andrew "the Gammby" Miller got married in July (07/07/07! Have a great time Brad! Monsoon season was in full...

The (Mis)adventures of an American English teacher in Chengdu, China. Saturday, April 18, 2009. Cockwork Orange: Ultimate Frisbee in Bangkok! At the end of February, Bill and I made a blitz trip to Bangkok to play in an Ultimate Frisbee hat tournament (they draw your name out of a hat and put you on a team, so it's O.K. to show up solo). It sparked what would become a rejuvenation of frisbee in our lives, and the start of frisbee in Chengdu! Bill and I had both been pretty inactive during the winter mont...

The Acorn and the Oak Tree. Earlier this week, a mosquito whispered in my ear as I was trying to fall asleep. He cooed, "What are you doing here, sweet-smelling white girl? My air-conditioner rumbled, someone else's water trickled down the bathroom pipes, and he kept on asking, "Why did you come? I almost let him ge...

The (Mis)adventures of an American English teacher in Chengdu, China. Saturday, January 31, 2009. Bill and I joined in a rooftop party and contributed paper lanterns that floated into the night sky like glowing hot air balloons. It was a trick getting the things lit, though! I feel good about this, the Year of the Ox, and I will do my best to update this blog more regularly (weekly, in fact! Check out this story about how the Chinese Zodiac animals were assigned:. K, sorry everyone who was hoping for some fun korea story/picture (don't worry, I'll have some soon), but first I have to make yet another cell phone number correction. In April I moved to southern California, the first time I've been on the West Coast (not counting inside airports) in 24 years. Time to see if the state is all its residents make it out to be.
