Coming in off the water, the wind was constant in strength and direction without the gusts and dead patches caused by the BrownsBay cliffs when the south wester blows. Charlie wheeled me into the garage making promises about fixing the problem with my leaking hull – which he rudely referred to as the “hole in Bessie’s bottom” to anyone who visited. Weeks went by and I felt myself being filled up with all his junk – didn’t know if I was a boat or a storage box. Winter hibernation amongst the garage junk. The surgery began….
