Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), Neonatal Death and Stillbirth are bound by the same tragic issues:. The loss of a child is something that no parent should have to suffer. Greater research is required to continue to reduce the numbers affected. It is often sudden, without warning and with no clues in previous medical history or scans. It often affects the seemingly strong and healthy. There are often no explanations found as to the cause of death. Interested in running your own event?

Stillbirths happen ten times more frequently than SIDS: 1 in 2,500 babies die from SIDS; 1 in 200 are stillborn. Around 4,000 babies are stillborn each year. Yet while the levels of SIDS. Have fallen dramatically in recent years, levels of stillbirth have remained virtually unchanged for 20 years. Researchers believe that with greater funding more at-risk pregnancies could be identified earlier and prevent this tragic loss. Sands is the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. We operate throughout the UK, supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives. Katya runs the BMW Frankfurt Marathon. On Sunday, 26th October Katya Salovaara ran the BMW Frankfurt Marathon and raised over 3,000 for Teddy’s Wish. In her own words, Katya said:. 8220;The thought of being able to support Chris and Jen and others kept me going during my struggle. I gave all I had on Sunday, and finished in 4.08 on the red carpet in Festhalle”. We are so grateful for Katya’s fundraising efforts and in awe of her phenomenal achievement. Congratulations Katya! Edward Louis Reid was born on 18 January 2014. Our first baby, he was the brightest light to ever shine in our lives. Tragically 3 months later on 16 April 2014 he left us, a victim of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), formerly known as Cot Death. This was the most devastating loss imaginable and that light was extinguished. We have set up Teddy’s Wish to raise funding to provide support for other grieving families and continue research into the causes behind SIDS, neonatal death and stillbirth.
