For Zion's Sake

Saturday, April 19, 2014. In Memory of Sebastian. And All The Others Like Him. While I was living in The Republic of Congo (ROC) I visited Baby C rèche Orphanage. I had waited to go, because I knew what would happen when I did. The first time I went I spent the whole time with a baby boy named Sebastian. He was withdrawn, somber and weak. He had long, skinny legs, just skin and bones, sad eyes, and a disproportionately large, round stomach. How can I go about my day normally - where there’s no ques...

For Zion's Sake: February 2014

http://www.betsystill.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Ramblings On Living With Purpose. First off, let me apologize for my lack of consistency in blogging. I promise I've had good intentions, even several partially written posts, but have clearly lacked the follow through to actually post them. As I prepared to leave the Africa Mercy, I wrote the following in my journal, which helps to summarize my time on board. We’ve prayed and prayed for wounds to heal, grafts to take and infections to clear. It makes tight living quarters, 2-...

For Zion's Sake: September 2013

http://www.betsystill.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Gloire and the Plastics Girls. We’re now on the 4th week of surgery here on the Africa Mercy. Surgeons, nurses and patients have come and gone, and it finally feels like there's at least a little bit of a routine. B Ward is Plastics (for a few more weeks, then becomes ortho, then womens health), and D Ward is “Max Fax” (Maxillofacial). Seriously, those eyes? And that heart shaped nasal bolster? Men and women who have had large facial tumors removed, like Ebeneezer,. This last...

For Zion's Sake: July 2013

http://www.betsystill.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 1, 2013. Overwhelmed with thankfulness as the day comes to an end. June 30th - the day I used to hope would be filled with tons of presents, now has become an ebenezer (a reminder of God's help and faithfulness) in my life. Each year I come back to this day, so acutely aware of how undeserving I am of the things and the people that I have in my life. We weren't crying about how wonderful I am, we were crying in thankfulness and celebration of what God has created. A community of 7 women ...

For Zion's Sake: October 2012

http://www.betsystill.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Feeling nice and sticky as we head to have dinner at a missionary coffee shop here in Yangoon. I just finished a FULL day of assessments - 32 bible college students! It's great to have a better idea what the needs are, and I'm hopeful that we will be able to treat some with medical supplies we brought and medications we buy here. Please pray for wisdom as we are making decisions about what to address now, and what to focus on for future trips. Labels: all around the world.

BSN & Beyond: to my beloved classmates

http://classof2011nurses.blogspot.com/2012/02/to-my-beloved-former-classmates.html

Wednesday, February 22, 2012. To my beloved classmates. I have yet to have written on this blog. I have my own blog. That i update fairly regularly, so writing here too seems redundant. But for whatever reason, it's 2 am, i'm still awake (thank you, night shift), and i feel like writing to you all. The collective life changes in the life of our little group in the past few months is unreal. Marriages (congrats jacy and clara! My life hasn't changed as much as many of yours. And for that, I'm grateful.

I create colorful paintings of microscopic and macroscopic nature hidden from the naked eye; the layered interconnectivity that could represent origins of life in a drop of water or systems in the vast cosmos. When we tug at a single thing in nature, we find that it is attached to the rest of the world.

Thyme In a Bottle

Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Bacon Mac and Cheese. I love mac and cheese. Like seriously love it. All kinds - the blue box, Velveeta shells and cheese, it's all wonderful. But nothing beats homemade - the real, baked-in-the-oven kind. So when I found this recipe on Annie's Eats. I had to try it. (And p.s., if you've never checked out Annie's blog, make it a priority. It's fantastic! 2 tbsp. unsalted butter. 188; cup flour. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 2½ cups milk. 188; tsp. salt. 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper.
