Lower Bevendean Farm about 1900 from Race Hill. Bevendean was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1533 there is a reference to Bevynden Farm in a Will for John Levitt, dated 22 October. In 1639 Thomas Covert of Slaugham owned the farm. In 1735 the farm owner was Elizabeth Goose of South Heighton. Bevendean Estate Index

The land had been farmed from early times and this continued until the 1940’s, when the land was needed for new housing. It was decided in July 1945 to site 66 Temporary Houses on the Lower Bevendean Estate. With a need for new homes in the post-war period, the Bevendean estate was quickly developed in the 1940s/50s. In 1948, twenty demobilised men decided that the only way to get homes for their families was to build them. The public house was completed in 1956 and closed in 2000.

Has been running for over 25 years. It started its life at Bevendean Primary School as an artistic gymnastic club and moved to Falmer High School in1995. The Club moved to Carden Primary School. In January 2011. We have now recently moved to Moulsecoomb Primary School in 2016. The Club is now primarily a Competitive acrobatics gymnastics. Club which also runs Recreational. We are a voluntary club, all coaches. We have GymMark accreditation. All coaches are fully qualified through British Gymnastics.
