We have tried the mate de coca, coca leaf tea that has no narcotic effects other than it is supposed to help with altitude sickness – that was not my cup of tea either! Fishing boats in Huanchaco. Vast, empty ruins at Chan Chan. We heard tales of human sacrifice and marveled at the acoustics of Chan Chan as our tiny wizened guide gave an eery rendition of El Condor Pasa ( she was fantastic.
