The Florida Healthy Start program begins with your first OB visit, when you will be asked to complete a confidential. Healthy Start screening form to determine if there are any risk factors that may increase the chances of your baby being born too early or too small. It also identifies conditions that could cause problems for you or your baby. To the Healthy Start screen will help in gathering information that can make health care better for you and all of Florida's moms and babies.

Early and regular prenatal care is so important to the birth of a healthy baby. That's why there is a special health insurance program for pregnant women who would not ordinarily be eligible for Medicaid because their household income is too high. Pregnant women whose household income is below a certain level (see chart below) may enroll in this program, which will cover medical care and hospitalization during pregnancy.
