Beyond the Cornfields: August 2014
http://beyondthecornfields.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
FOLLOW OUR UNUSUAL LIFE ABROAD (currently in MALTA) IN THE FOREIGN SERVICE. Wednesday, August 13, 2014. As kids, we thought rhubarb was tart. and it is. But over the years, we acquired the love for rhubarb custard pie, homemade by Grandpa or Mom every summer and as treats through the cold winter. The girls asked lots of questions about this new plant and helped to put the pies together. Let's hope we can get them to love it too. eventually! Grandpa Kueker's Rhubarb Custard Pie. Pour onto pie mixture.

FOLLOW OUR UNUSUAL LIFE ABROAD (currently in MALTA) IN THE FOREIGN SERVICE. Monday, July 28, 2014. 4th of July in "America". After wrapping up a fun week with the Embassy 4th celebration of Route 66 night, we planned our first long weekend getaway. For 9 months, we've been in Malta. loving it! But for the 4th weekend, we arranged our first little excursion to our neighboring SICILY! Aisles of American food. I think I shed a tear or two. We couldn't have picked a better weekend to head to Sicily! Wife, ma...

FOLLOW OUR UNUSUAL LIFE ABROAD (currently in MALTA) IN THE FOREIGN SERVICE. Monday, June 30, 2014. Our sweet neighbor invited us to come pick nectarines at his farm recently. So on a fresh summer day during our school break, we meandered down the winding alleys and streets of Gharghur and landed at his gate. A week's worth of nectarines, flowers and big smiles. such a nice morning! We've also had the great opportunity to visit other local farms. Monday, June 23, 2014. World Cup at the Aquarium. And I found it easier to post pics, if I chopped up the trip. Kinda have a habit of oversnapping pics.kinda. We enjoyed the Katy Perry concert, Lunar New Year and Duomo immensely, but these little tidbits sure made us happy, as well. Having no real agenda was nice ;) Loving lunch pizza so much that we ordered...
Beyond the Cornfields: Behind the Scenes Tour- Malta National Aquarium
http://beyondthecornfields.blogspot.com/2015/05/behind-scenes-tour-malta-national.html
FOLLOW OUR UNUSUAL LIFE ABROAD (currently in MALTA) IN THE FOREIGN SERVICE. Monday, May 18, 2015. Behind the Scenes Tour- Malta National Aquarium. Aside from beaches, the Malta Aquarium has to be our most frequented place in Malta that we go as a family. It is solitude from winter gloom and a retreat from summer heat. It teaches. It relaxes. It amazes each of us in our own way. The playground keeps the kids thrilled, but so do the fish. I love that they are both so familiar and at home at the aquarium.

Two Times the Fun (and Then Some): November 2014
http://twotimesthefunoboy.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 23, 2014. The Zombie Apocolypse (or homeschool challenge #347). When I imagined all the challenges that homeschooling my 3 little men would bring me, I did not anticipate one very real situation that we currently have on our hands. They are real, folks. Trying to get dressed and make beds and brush their teeth for another exhaustive amount of time. They move in slow motion and their brains are not turned on until some time after lunch. I am a morning person. By the time I finish lunch, m...

A Different Perspective *. Follow our lives abroad from Bangladesh to El Salvador. Friday, December 27, 2013. Baby Sea Turtle Release. On a Saturday morning, we drove about an hour and a half to Playa el Pimental to see and release baby turtles into the Pacific Ocean. There's a wonderful organization for the conservation of turtles in El Salvador, FUNZEL. Another interesting fact is that the female turtles that live to maturity end up nesting on the same beach where they hatched. Links to this post.

Just Another Day in Paradise. Following our family as we transition to the FAO lifestyle. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Please pardon my crankiness today - our house has been taken over by a virus for the last two weeks and the fifth and final member of the family finally caught it last night. Just want to share a quick thought. For anyone who thinks bednets are beautiful, exotic, or even romantic. Imagine how much fun they are to clean after your child has vomited on them. That's all, folks! Even within th...

Just Another Day in Paradise. Following our family as we transition to the FAO lifestyle. Saturday, March 9, 2013. To Write or not to write. Isn't that the question? I chose to take a break for a while - mainly because I feel like my writing quality tends to suffer when I force myself to write, and as I'm not exactly a master of words as is, I have to wait for my peak writing periods :). Sure But I consider that the price of doing business. And in the end, I'm happy with what we got. As The World Turns.

For our last full day in Bhutan we drove back to Paro valley where we would stay our last night closer to the airport. The monastery itself consists of four main temples and seve...

Monday, February 13, 2012. So Mike may have been a bit upset when, this year, he fully realized that all 3 girls in the family have a December birthday! Yes, all of us. Each about a week a part. Can you say FUN! Maggie Turned 3 before Tess had her first birthday and got to fully indulge in the birthday goodness. Tess turned 1, WHAT! Our baby is now 1, and it feels like yesterday we took that facebook photo and said, what is her name going to be? It was a good Thanksgiving. It was a really great getaway f...

May 20, 2015. Cool Finds and Things! From time to time while I'm following other blogs, or reading my home decorating boards, I come across something cool that I take note of. I should really start a binder of cool things, but some days that would be a full time job! Today I wanted to share some of the fun things I've found recently. Let's start with my Target shoes, thanks to Kate from The Small Things. Ugh, these ones are a bugger! This family portrait in from I nkLane Designs. I had to comment to tell...

FOLLOW OUR UNUSUAL LIFE ABROAD (& sometimes in America) IN THE FOREIGN SERVICE. Friday, January 26, 2018. Tuesday, May 9, 2017. When 7000 miles apart. Well, birthdays have to look a bit like this. Today he wasn't feeling well and after an hour of Skype, he said his frequent phrase, "go enjoy Florida". For some reason, it struck a chord today. We are under 90 days until the next move (it is Dallas, BTW), and that feeling of a to-do or to-see list is boiling to the surface. Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Saturday...
Beyond the Cortina
Ignore the man behind the curtain. He's probably talking about tango. Monday, 10 December 2012. Tuve de tu boca en su frialdad. The moment when you walk into the salon from a freezing evening. Greetings and hugs and kisses, followed by gasps and shivers and exclamations remarking on coldness of noses or chilliness of hands. And then you acclimatise to the temperature, like a diver adjusting to the pressure, until you're the one surprised by the cool kiss of a recent arrival. Saturday, 8 December 2012.
