Everyday Holy: July 2013
http://harmonywatts.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Six Months of Books in 2013. At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to read 26 books in 2013. The year is a little more than halfway over, and amazingly, I've kept pace with that goal. As of June 30, I've read 14 books. I've started another four, but I won't get into my issues with reading multiple books at the same time here. Appropriately, last weekend at McKay's I picked up a memoir by journalist Sara Nelson called So Many Books, So Little Time. Sounded the most interesti...

Everyday Holy: September 2008
http://harmonywatts.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 07, 2008. I am no good at being a Christian. Yep, you heard me correctly. I stink at this Jesus-following gig. Only one thing keeps me from throwing my hands in the air and proclaiming, "I can't do this! I know for a fact that there are at least a handful of people (non-Christians) in my life who are aware that I claim to be a Christ-follower and think I give my faith a bad name. The fact is that I. I'm not so great at loving God. Don't get me wrong - I. I'm not so great at loving peopl...

Monday, February 18, 2013. Finding a New Rhythm in Motherhood, Part 2. Last time I told you I have this nice, longish list of goals I want to accomplish by (roughly) December 31, 2013. And most of those goals require a daily investment of my time. My full-time-work-at-home, new-mom time. Did you laugh at me? Snort in derision, maybe? It's okay if you did. I forgive you. Hope is different from. I'm keepin' it real. Baby Girl may not sleep through the night until she's nine, for all I know. After my quiet ...

Everyday Holy: February 2008

Friday, February 01, 2008. The Allure of Mr. Darcy. Jane Austen's most popular hero has inspired the daydreams of single women for over a century. Young women even gather together in groups for "Girls' Night" to "marathon" the viewing of the BBC's. With Colin Firth. Six hours watching a British made-for-TV movie obviously means something by way of devotion. But just what is it about Mr. Darcy that makes women swoon, albeit figuratively? I'm going to hazard a few guesses. It is not only how Darcy views El...

Everyday Holy: August 2010
http://harmonywatts.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 15, 2010. In two weeks, I'm turning 35. 35, but then, I guess I really have no idea what 35 ought to feel like. It feels a little crazy if I think about it too hard, a little bit dizzying, like three glasses of Prosecco on an empty stomach or too many rides on the Top Thrill Dragster. I know it's probably cliche', but I keep starting to have that internal discussion with myself that goes something like, "Are you where you're supposed to be? Have you totally screwed up your life? Well, yes&...
