Bartley Green District Kitwell

Follows on from Woodgate and thence on to Frankley. It is on the boundary of our areas of research and was brought into the City of Birmingham in the 1990s although originally formed part of the old Parish of Northfield. Early rate books, including the Tithe Apportionments of 1838, make reference to habitation in the area. In June, 2008 a Blue Plaque for Jane Loudon was sited on the nearby Kitwell Primary School. People are invited to become 'Friends' of the History Group at a cost of 7 per person per annum and will receive a newsletter bi-annually. Subscription runs from 1st April to 31st March. 'Friends' have free entry to any event that is held during the year. Visitors are welcome at these events with an entrance fee of 2.50p. Children under 16, with an adult, free. The Group receives very little financial assistance and is reliant on 'friends' subscriptions and donations and we are very grateful for these.

Bartley Green, Woodgate, Wood Lane, Adams Hill, Clapgate Lane

1910 looking from centre of village up along Wood Lane. There was a smallholding close to Moor Street (Woodgate Lane) which was in existence as early as 1840, if not before, and was being used up until the 1960s. On the right-hand side of Adams Hill stood the Woodgate Methodist Chapel and later the Methodist School. On the left facing the Chapel, was the Crown Inn.
