Just What were u thinking...: January 2013

Just What were u thinking. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Mahabalipuram - The Pride of the Pallavas. The Structural Erections – Shore Temple:. Durga on a lion with small carved shrine. The effects of erosion due to years of being submerged in water and centuries of facing the rough seas and the salty winds are clearly visible in this temple. Once in awhile, the ASI covers the temple with paper pulp and casuarinas to protect the sculptures by adding an additional coating to the surface. Many rock hewn caves an...

Just What were u thinking. Sunday, December 18, 2011. Running in India - The Public Perception. Most things in social science can either be explained or blamed on perception. And how society perceives running is going to determine the future of the sport in India. Here are a few of my interactions with society as runner:. 8221; No one becomes a long distance runner without pushing past perceived limits of pain and endurance. A few folks from the forest department in KBR Park terming runners as a nuisance...

Just What were u thinking. Monday, February 18, 2013. Notes from New York. A colourful message outside a restaurant in New York reads “Life is too short to drink bad wine”. It's the last day of my trip to the US and I reckon this short sentence perfectly describes this amazing city and its people. The City of New York from Empire State. MOMA: Edvard Munch's Melancholy". Just What were u thinking. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Redemption – 50k Ultra-marathon at the Bangalore Ultra 2011. Now why would anybody run an ultra-marathon (in which runners run beyond the regular marathon distance of 42.2k) and willingly put themselves under such pain? So why bother” they say signaling that any further conversation on my part would serve little purpose. So in this blog entry I will try to analyze the answers to the question – “Why run an ultra”. Early morning start at Ultra. Befor...

Spice Monkey: Cabbage with turmeric

http://spicemonkey.blogspot.com/2012/01/cabbage-with-turmeric.html

Jan 19, 2012. Holy cabbage, batman! It's 2012. This blog has been revived again! I decided to try out the local CSA box and just my luck, they give me a giant head of lettuce. It's HUGE! There's no way I would ever buy this much cabbage. It's enough to feed a small country. Coincidentally I had a potluck to get to the following day and decided to make this classic indian style cabbage. It is generally paired with rice and something like this. Onion- yellow (or other)- chopped fine - 2 tbspn. 4 Sprinkle t...

Spice Monkey: A Most Rightious Rotini n' Cheese

http://spicemonkey.blogspot.com/2010/09/most-rightious-rotini-n-cheese.html

Sep 12, 2010. A Most Rightious Rotini n' Cheese. This is the best Mac (well, Rotini) n’ Cheese recipe I’ve ever had in my life, and I have made numerous variations of Mac n’ Cheese in the past, and tasted recipes everywhere I can find them – this tops them ALL. Seriously, I should be inducted into the Mac n’ Cheese Hall of Fame for this one. And if there isn’t a Hall of Fame for Mac, they should start one just for me. - AnglophileLV. 1 1/2 C dry rotini – boil according to package directions. 4 Add the Va...

Spice Monkey: Atomic Navy Bean Soup - Desi Style

http://spicemonkey.blogspot.com/2009/06/navy-bean-soup-desi-style.html

Jun 24, 2009. Atomic Navy Bean Soup - Desi Style. I had such a hard time coming up with a name for this dish in English. This is a Konkani. Staple. The beans change but the method of preparation is the same. I've tried googling. The English names of the beans/lentils that I grew up eating but I wasn't very successful. It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon and I’m walking down the riverfront with my significant other. We come across a pair of coin-operated binoculars. I never carry quarters with me, but I stop instinctively. Of course, when I look through the view finder it’s completely dark. I push the coin level down just for the heck of it and the view suddenly clears! I think about this for a moment. Was it really luck? Anytime I walk into a casino, I always (well, mostly) follow this rule:. When you try something new ...
