The purpose of the trip was to see for ourselves the biggest, yet relatively unknown, violation of human rights in all history; the oppression of the Dalits, also called the “untouchables”, “outcastes”, “slumdogs”. BHLC - Sharing Hope. BHLC x HERRO T-shirts. The term “Dalit” means “those who have been broken and ground down deliberately by those above them in the social hierarchy.”. The Dalits comprise nearly one quarter of India’s society, with population estimates of 250 million people. 160 million people in India are born outside the four castes of the Varna system - the oldest surviving social hierarchy of the world. They are called the "untouchables". They thermselves have chosen the name DALITS (broken people).

The concert sold over 300 tickets and raised $1488.80. For our LivingHope School project. The concert saw a collaboration of many different performers (who did not know each other before the concert); with two of them coming all the way up from California, United States! As champions for the Dalits.
