May 20, 2013. The Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Faye. This is a murder mystery, and the murders are quite gruesome. But Faye uses another historical fact the existence of "flash talk" to lighten up the story. I didn't know anything about this way of speaking, and her use of it was fantastic and often very funny.
