Leaving the hotel means being accosted by beggars, and it's not a good idea to hand over money, or risk getting mobbed. Other people approach us and seem curious and amiable but it gets uncomfortable when they seem to want to accompany you everywhere! At a reception we also got to glad hand each member of the cabinet. We even got on TV. Fame indeed! There were two long 'Indiana Jones' bridges to cross today. Both over large, fast-flowing rivers, but I'm afraid that there were no crocodiles below and the steps did not fall through! The conference starts tomorrow and the delegates have started arriving. It turns out that I only have 20 minutes to present - how am I going to fit 300 slides in? Delhi - day 2.

Tony Paget's account of the journey to Bhutan during July and August 2009. Sunday, 26 July 2009. We are very fortunate in having a guide and a driver provided by the Ministry for Health. As well as the obvious benefits, it seems that access to some sites can only be done with Government permission and this has all been arranged. Very cool indeed! We were 'blessed' several times by red-gowned monks. And there was the 'om' chanting, cymbals and those 10 foot long trumpets that make the ground shake!
