Do you ever feel unwanted? |
https://orangefamilies.wordpress.com/2009/11/09/do-you-ever-feel-unwanted
Do you ever feel unwanted? November 9, 2009. Do you ever feel like you are the swine in the swine flu? Do you feel like you are unwanted because you’re damaged goods, messed up, imperfect, don’t have it all together? Do you ever feel like you gotten shoved away from the pack and left all alone? Do you ever feel unwanted? 8220;God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). Ps- I totally jacked this picture from Carlos Whittaker’s blog. Februar...

Should a fat pastor be a pastor at all? |
https://orangefamilies.wordpress.com/2008/08/28/should-a-fat-pastor-be-a-pastor-at-all
Should a fat pastor be a pastor at all? August 28, 2008. Should a fat pastor be a pastor at all? That question came up the other day, and it really got me thinking. The discussion wasn’t so much about being fat, but about whether pastors should be held to higher standards than non-pastors. Is being fat a sin? Are there any unforgivable sins? Jesus says that only “blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.”. I also take seriously the call to the “priesthood of all believers”. Every...Yes And so ar...

Flynt Family 2010 Theme- Ways to be simple. January 7, 2010. If you’re just popping on for the first time or haven’t been around in a while, we’re talking about “simplicity”- my family’s theme for 2010. The question I’ve been thinking about is: how can I be simple? What can others around me do (probably better than me)? How can I focus on those things I do best and leverage them for the greater mission? One of my brothers suggested relational simplicity. Can I get an amen! From → Bible. You are commentin...

Throwing out our microwave |

Throwing out our microwave. January 11, 2010. So, I’m tossing out our microwave. That’s a picture of it completely dismantled and sitting next to the garbage cans in the garage. Our staff is wrapping up a book we’ve been reading togother called “Influencer: The Power To Change Anything.” I’ll give a review soon, but let’s just say that’s a really bold title! How often does your family eat the same meal at the same time at the same table together? Who is in for the “4N7 Challenge”? From → Books. Fill in y...

Wii, where have you been all my life? |
https://orangefamilies.wordpress.com/2008/05/15/wii-where-have-you-been-all-my-life
Wii, where have you been all my life? May 15, 2008. Brian, Access’ student ministry director, left for his honeymoon today and dropped off his wii for safekeeping. I’ve never played wii and honestly have never seen the big deal about game systems… until tonight! So,we hooked it up and the whole family got in on the action! Things got interesting when the kids hit the sack, and Kristen and I played a little tennis and baseball, rocked some bowling, and of course, boxed it up for a while. From → Fun. Creat...

GoodReads |
https://orangefamilies.wordpress.com/2010/01/14/goodreads
January 14, 2010. I started reading a new book yesterday. It’s called. 8220;Counterfeit Gods: the empty promises of money, sex, power, and the only hope that matters”. It’s by Tim Keller. I’m just getting going on the book, but it is phenomenal so far. Keller is so smart, yet so accessible. This book couldn’t be more timely for where we are as a society. If you want to see what else I have been reading, you can take a look at my GoodReads. Have you read Counterfeit Gods? From → Books. On Have you ever re...

Men in Family Ministry. January 6, 2010. One of the things that I am passionate about as a pastor and as a dad is having men serving at all levels of leadership in Family Ministry. I am so proud that at Access we have men who serve as Waumba Land Coaches, UpStreet producers, singers, storytellers, and hosts, UpStreet small group leaders, guest services hosts, Waumba Land small group leaders, and in student ministry. This morning, I met with some of our guys who lead in Family Ministry to have breakfast&#...
