Follow me as I journey into the depths of my unread bookcase. 103 books in 3 months? Thursday, June 7, 2012. I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way. Who will see a. This quote from Bilbo in Book II, Chapter III of The Fellowship of the Ring. Reminds me of the Iroquois principle of the seven generations. In Iroquois culture, every decision that we make is made while thinking about the effects on the next seven generations. Now I venture into The Two Towers. Posted by Lauren J. Mapp. Waves of a...

Bibliophile Challenge: May 2012

http://bibliophilechallenge.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Follow me as I journey into the depths of my unread bookcase. 103 books in 3 months? Thursday, May 31, 2012. I am still making my way through the council meeting in Rivendell, but I figured I write a quick update to say that I have entered the "Once Upon a Readathon" through fellow book blogger Candace's blog page. The Readathon lasts from 12:01 am on July 9 to 11:59 pm on July 11. As my minimum number of books to read during that time period I will say 3 books, which I will post at a later date. A red v...

Bibliophile Challenge: Sometimes you need "just a bit of nonsense"

http://bibliophilechallenge.blogspot.com/2012/05/sometimes-you-need-just-bit-of-nonsense.html

Follow me as I journey into the depths of my unread bookcase. 103 books in 3 months? Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Sometimes you need "just a bit of nonsense". I've finally set some time aside each day to seriously focus on this masochistic reading project, and I have now finally progressed up to Book II, Chapter II of The Fellowship of the Ring. I have finally completed the dangerous, anxiety-filled journey to Rivendell. Which if you have read The Fellowship of the Ring. Posted by Lauren J. Mapp. Challenge: ...

Journalists Wear Converse: Let's go to the movies, let's go write a review

http://laurenjmapp.blogspot.com/2013/04/lets-go-to-movies-lets-go-write-review.html

Monday, April 15, 2013. Let's go to the movies, let's go write a review. Anyone can go to a movie and regurgitate the plot and their opinion about the film quality afterward, but what sets apart an OK movie review from a well-written one is poise and structure of the latter. Photo by Allison M. Seward. While I might not be THE best movie critic in the world, I have picked up a tip or two from my experience writing for The Mesa Press. 1 DO NOT give away the ending. When I write movie reviews, the first ti...

The adventures of culinary opportunist and explorer Lauren J. Mapp. Saturday, August 31, 2013. Cochabamaba, Cliza show their culinary prowess. Cochabamba and Cliza, Bolivia. Bus travel in South America is almost always a horrendously painful ordeal. There. I’ve said it. Now that that’s out of the way, our trip between La Paz and Cochabamba featured another 8 hour ride on a bus that lacked a functional restroom. After checking into our rooms at La Fontaine Oruro Hotel. During the conference speeches we we...

Journalists Wear Converse: Blogging project ends on high note

http://laurenjmapp.blogspot.com/2013/05/blogging-project-ends-on-high-note.html

Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Blogging project ends on high note. Blogging is easy to keep up with, said no one. Ever. As I mentioned earlier in this semester, I have been a very lethargic blogger throughout the past few years, losing momentum after several weeks of starting a blog. This blog has been different, however, mainly because I needed to dedicate myself to it for my Online Journalism and Digital Media course. The most useful of these is probably the Storify. Video site. Even though creating a video.

Journalists Wear Converse: Everyone loves (photographing) a parade

http://laurenjmapp.blogspot.com/2013/04/everyone-loves-photographing-parade.html

Monday, April 8, 2013. Everyone loves (photographing) a parade. All too often as a student journalist the assignments that you receive will involve tedious board meetings. This photo from a San Diego Community College District board meeting on Oct. 18, 2012 isn't even remotely interesting, but hopefully it will serve as a contrast to the more exciting photos from parades and protests later in this post. Photo Credit: Lauren J. Mapp. 1 Show up early. This photo of Brisa Johnson from a Trayvon Martin.

Biblio Gets Fit | I love books and PF

I love books and PF. This new job is incredible, but incredibly draining. I’m constantly running around and trying. To make sure everyone’s happy, or at least their basic needs are met. By 8pm I’m usually fighting sleep, and it’s a battle I rarely win. I guess that’s all I have for now. I’m just tired and really want to go to bed. Too bad that’s not an option today. Until next time 💛. August 6, 2015. Forever and a day. Anyways, I started a new job a few weeks back taking care of a 2 month old, and a 3 m...
