The Old Black Canyon Highway. The main stop around the turn of the century was the town of Mayer. Originally known as Big Bug Station it stood as a traveler's oasis, providing shelter and sustenance to those that required it. In that regard, Big Bug Station remains a place of respite to any number of well worn souls. A place to hang you dirty hat, get comfy and rest your bones.

The Old Black Canyon Highway. In 1909 Joe Mayer suffered an accidental gunshot wound and died two days later. His wife, Sadie, lived on with her family and continued to run things as best she could. Sadie died in 1934 and the family ran the Mayer business up until 1989 when Jim, Susan, and Mike Connors bought it. They continue to restore it to this day.
