Big Dummy Daddy: June 2014
http://bigdummydaddy.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Living life with a big green cargo bike. Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Evening ride with the whole pack. Like just about every evening this time of year, this evening was perfect for a ride. Even better, we had family in town for their annual visit, who were expecting some two-wheeled entertainment. A pair of Larrys. Human Larry lets fly a wild Minnesota yawp, while Surly Larry the tire grins from the front of my Pugsley. Posted by Andy D. Friday, June 20, 2014. A long line of pelicans. Posted by Andy D.

Living life with a big green cargo bike. Friday, February 13, 2015. DIY Longtail of the future: Xtracycle MegaRack. A Surly Krampus with a MegaRack and kid seat. Looks like fun. Images in this post are from Xtracycle. I ordinarily post only photos and content that I've created, though I occasionally make an exception. This is one of those occasions. The images in this post came from a Google Hangouts video hosted today by Ross Evans of Xtracycle. CAD images of the MegaRack design. Via Xtracycle. Alliance...
Big Dummy Daddy: Wherein I venture into the world of big wheels
http://bigdummydaddy.blogspot.com/2013/11/wherein-i-venture-into-world-of-big.html
Living life with a big green cargo bike. Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Wherein I venture into the world of big wheels. Black and yellow 2008 Redline Monocog 29er. For more than a year I've conceptually evaluated the idea of myself on 29-inch wheels. I've had intermittent rides on several big-wheeled. New-to-me 2008 Redline Monocog 29er, size XL (21"). As long as it has wheels and she gets to run along with it, Scout approves. I really like the Monocog's Atari-esque '80s style graphics. VP Components VP-001...

A strong appetite, average palate, and weak writing, mixed with outdoor adventure. A strong appetite, average palate, and weak writing, mixed with outdoor adventure. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Monday, March 19, 2012. Expect a lot of chatter about gardening, likely combined with some smugness. Such as, our heirloom tomatoes, which are being grown organically, taste sublime when combined with hickory smoked salt, and are especially flavorful after a bike ride. Speaking of bikes…. bike wrider: September 2012
http://bikewrider.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 26, 2012. I headed out to do some science today. My commute to the research site follows a glacier fed lake for the first eight miles. Between record snowfall last winter and a healthy amount of precipitation this summer it's been a big water year and the lake is getting too big for its britches. Their are (normally) two roughly parallel, occasionally intersecting, trails along the lake. One for ATVs and one for non-motorized users. Pretty cool if you ask me. Bankfull and Then Some.
Culinary Hack: Post-Work 14er

A strong appetite, average palate, and weak writing, mixed with outdoor adventure. A strong appetite, average palate, and weak writing, mixed with outdoor adventure. Thursday, June 7, 2012. Alan and I went from climbing 14ers every weekend last summer to both being booked and having to schedule stuff months in advance this summer. One workaround, and a cure for mid-week mental doldrums, the Wednesday climb. It is all quite simple, by following these steps:. Pick something within a 90 minute drive. My men...

Sunday, November 02, 2014. Bike shop field trip. It's no secret that I've been a fan of Omaha Bicycle Company. For awhile now. I've posted a few pics of some lovely build that they have done. Their Facebook page. Is loaded with beautiful pictures of nearby rides that debunk the notion that Nebraska is devoid of great places to ride. I only got one picture of the exterior of the shop:. Anyway, great shop! Things are looking up. If you ever find yourself in Omaha, take the time and make the effort to stop ...

I like bikes: Bag curious
http://ilikesbikes.blogspot.com/2014/02/bag-curious.html
Tuesday, February 25, 2014. So what's the point of having bicycles if not to accessorize them? And I have a penchant for bike bags, as I believe I have previously mentioned. I swear, if I spent as much time riding bikes as I do thinking about bike doo-dads.well, I'd be in a lot better shape both physically and financially. Anyway, the latest object of my obsession is a front bag for my Velo Orange Porteur rack. Currently residing on my Cross Check. Next up is the Inside Line Equipment. Even so, I am stil...
I like bikes: I resolve to make no resolutions for 2015
http://ilikesbikes.blogspot.com/2014/12/i-resolve-to-make-no-resolutions-for.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. I resolve to make no resolutions for 2015. Just carrying on with the tradition that has worked so well for me thus far. I have decided to take strides to remedy some of these deficits, thus my "goal" for the year. I have selected 12 books to read this year, one for each month. I took several suggestions from the Powell's Books List of 25 Books to Read Before You Die. I'll add a few more as time allows. Without further belaboring, here is my list:. So, away we go! Vice on Nig...

Living life with a big green cargo bike. Thursday, September 1, 2016. Will Specialized Fast Trak 29 x 2.0 tires fit a Surly Cross Check? The tires look meaty and tough on the bike, but neither wheel will roll without buzzing contact with the frame and fork. Uhh nope. Not quite. After his recent visit, Nick. Fast Trak 29 x 2.0 on the front. Mavic MA3, 20 mm wide, on both front and rear. Plenty of top clearance, not enough side clearance in the fork. Yep, still 2.0. No better luck in the rear. Over the wee...
