Biggles' babbles: February 2011

http://bigglesbabbles.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Planes, trains and dictionaries: the musings of a translator and interpreter. Monday, 21 February 2011. Every little (bit) helps. One of the fun things about being in another country is not only seeing what is considerably different to your own country/culture but also noticing the little things - the things that are almost the same, but not quite. The Germans have a word for that (a short one too! They call it an Ohrwurm. Thursday, 10 February 2011. Monday, 7 February 2011. The city's tourist informatio...

Biggles' babbles: January 2010

http://bigglesbabbles.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Planes, trains and dictionaries: the musings of a translator and interpreter. Friday, 22 January 2010. The colour of music. I was somewhat excited to hear synaesthesia talked about on an episode of 'QI', as it is a condition which, in my experience, isn't well known but is one that I have (making me a synaesthete). Synaesthesia. So, when you say you 'see' colour, do you mean that everything turns green or whatever? No It's like when you 'see' or picture something in your mind.". Oh That's weird.". Who kn...

Biggles' babbles: August 2011

http://bigglesbabbles.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Planes, trains and dictionaries: the musings of a translator and interpreter. Sunday, 21 August 2011. To cut a long story short, I had two job interviews and two job offers in the space of two weeks. An exciting whirlwind of e-mails, flight bookings, train bookings and a packed suitcase later, and I am now a cross-border worker (or travailleuse transfrontalière. I'm working as an in-house translator in Luxembourg but currently commuting from Thionville, over the border in the Lorraine region of France.

Biggles' babbles: August 2010

http://bigglesbabbles.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Planes, trains and dictionaries: the musings of a translator and interpreter. Tuesday, 31 August 2010. I was lucky to have two visits this month, from Dr T (on her way home from Paris) and from the Polar Berry. Duo (on their way home from Burgundy): good company, good conversation, good food, good wine. During the latter's visit, the city had been taken over by street performers for the Streeta(rt)nimation. Anyone remember "I want to be.a tree! Wednesday, 18 August 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Travels without my spaniel: November 2010

http://pinolona.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Travels without my spaniel. Left my beloved Kraków now to set up in Brussels but this is by no means the end of my adventures with Polish. Linguistic confusion and cross-cultural misunderstandings still abound. I'm an interpreter, a translator, a musician, I'm learning to cook again and I miss my dog. I think that's got it covered, more or less. Sunday, 28 November 2010. Far from home in a hotel room. If I manage to survive all that, I may even take some photos. Thursday, 25 November 2010. The new one is...

Biggles and Bertie the Tibetan Terrors

Biggles and Bertie the Tibetan Terrors. Wednesday, 9 September 2015. TT's part dog, part cat, part monkey, part magpie, part goat! The joys of owning a TT. Have just spent about 35 mins standing under the chestnut tree with arms wide open, hoping a certain little man who will be 11 months old tomorrow, doesn't lose his footing! He watched the geese fly over the garden and then shot up the tree to see them land on the water and enjoyed the view so much , he went higher! Friday, 27 February 2015. On Monday...

Blavatsky's Tower at the Barons Court Theatre

Curtains Up, 28a Comeragh Road, London W14 9HR. 7:15pm for 7:30pm start. Wow, this play is good. In a fringe awash with Shakespeare, it’s a real treat to find this sparkling black comedy so beautifully revived.". Honour Bayes, The Stage. Exceptional, tense, funny and highly entertaining. The superb acting creates characters that, in spite of their creepy complexities, become completely believable. A production definitely not to be missed.". Tom Brand (user comment on WhatsOnStage.

EU to sue Britain 30/05/2013. The EU is set to sue the UK over its restrictions on benefits for EU citizens moving into Britain. This is another move from Brussels to take away the rights of its members to make their own rules in the national interest and it makes me sick. The people doing this are NOT ELECTED by anyone, are NOT ACCOUNTABLE and CAN NOT BE REMOVED by the public they reign over. Reminds me of the Chinese and the former soviets.
