At Argos, we believe in looking after our employees. All employees are trained in Basic Food Hygiene and First Aid. If you would like to go further we offer opportunities to train in other areas - Intermediate Food Hygiene, Retail, and Bakery. We always have an apprentice baker, and a trainer visits Orkney from the Scottish Association of Master Bakers every 6 weeks in order to continue training with shop and bakery staff. There used to be a few working bakeries in Stromness but now Argo's is the only one. The bakery is still very much a family run business - Ian and Mabel Argo bought the business from Ian's father George in the 1950s. In 1988 Ian became the President of the Scottish Association of Master Bakers, and has been the only person from Orkney to hold that position.
