My BIG RIDE Across America 2011. Charlton Durant and Lynn Petrotte. We were extremely fortunate to have Charlton and Lynn as our leaders on this trip. They are a highly skilled and experienced husband and wife team with decades of experience in the outdoors. In addition to cycling tours, Charlton has led kayaking, climbing, skiing and sailing trips all over the United States and around the world in places including Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Antarctica. He also. Rich has worked as a bike mechanic an...

My BIG RIDE Across America 2011. Monday, August 1, 2011. Day 42 - Washington, PA. I went to bed about 8 pm last night. I think I have been a bit sleep-deprived and have not fully adjusted to the last time zone change. It was another short day in terms of mileage, about 62 miles. We were told that it would be more hilly than yesterday, and it was. Our steepest grade today was 15%. It is supposed to get even hillier as the week goes on. We descended the hill and crossed the state line. I rode for a while w...

My BIG RIDE Across America 2011. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Day 41 - New Waterford, OH. We woke up to thick fog this morning. We headed out of Burton and rode into Middlefield, one of the largest Amish communities in the world. It was a quiet Saturday morning and there wasn’t much car or buggy traffic. It was an easy day of riding today, only about 60 miles, not too hilly and no wind issues. The fog kept the temperature quite pleasant. We are spending the night at the Terrace Lakes Campground. We were all ...

My BIG RIDE Across America 2011: May 2011

http://www.bigride2011.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

My BIG RIDE Across America 2011. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. I am a 50 year old woman who LOVES to ride a bike! I grew up in a small town in upstate New York and discovered the joy of cycling at an early age. During my pre-teen and teen years, I spent countless hours on my bike exploring the country roads in and around my home town. Unfortunately, like many women, I found little time to exercise when I was in my 20's and 30's as a career and raising children consumed much of my time. BIG RIDE ACROSS AMERICA.

The hills of pennsylvania in earnest. It was cold. It had rained all day long. We sat on the floor a while longer staring out the window and willing the rain to stop. We were still 20 miles away from Gettysburg, but I felt like I'd already ridden 200 that day. We were so exhausted. Lynn, one of the crew members, came along....We finally mu...

The slowest morning and the fastest afternoon. We figured that the others would have such a hard time with the hills that we'd have no problem getting to the point where the paths merged with time to spare. We figured wrong. The others had long since gone by the time we made it to the meet up point. Also, a bit from Daria's blog.

In the days after the Big Ride ended, my heart remained like a heavy weight of lead in my chest. We quickly covered the ground between us and McDonald's, nearly slipping on a bridge expansion joint on a rain-covered bridge, but making it safely to shelter in one piece. Amazing. The Big Ride 2015

The Big Ride 2015. 510 miles from Dundee to London by bike. I cycled with Bill Wilson to raise money for Nablus - but also to have a good long cycle with like-minded people. It was great. Mostly good weather, lots of new experiences and lots of new friends. Our generous donors have given more than 2,100 for Nablus. The other riders raised over 63,000 for Gaza. A practical and supportive achievement for Palestine. We are very grateful. Bill Wilson (left) and Mike Whitehead (right). Edinburgh - ready to go.
