Scientific research is the foundation of the Big Spring Watershed Association. BSWA was founded in the wake of a scientific study which proved that over the years the stream was dying due to the numerous hatcheries from the state (Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission) and private sources. This is one of the reasons that the watershed association is pursuing dye trace tests, to discover any vulnerabilities, and suggest remediations if needed to further protect Big Spring.
