Cycloblogger: Buck Hill Cyclocross
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/09/buck-hill-cyclocross.html
This is our world on two wheels. Sunday, September 27, 2009. Ben Kraft and I carpooled to Mecklenburg, arriving at about 9am. I had some hope of competing in the masters category, since after all I am 31 and according to page 5 of the UCI rulebook. What I liked so much about the event was the interaction with the bystanders. That sweet sound of cowbell made the day. Ernie was also rooting a lot for me, and that made me want to keep on pushing. Cycloblogger: Tour de Shunk 2009
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/09/tour-de-shunk-2009.html
This is our world on two wheels. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Tour de Shunk 2009. Last year the Tour de Shunk was scheduled the day after the STAP Ride for Life. But a good challenge for most people. Steve, Ben, Olivia and I decided to leave before the official start scheduled for 9am. The first 13 miles or so, with a total of 19 rollers (I am told), were familiar to me from the PA "Endless Mountains" 1000K. The next 25 miles were a blur. We were moving swiftly on a downhill section followed by a fla...

Cycloblogger: FLCC Halsey Valley-Waverly-Spencer Ride
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/09/flcc-halsey-valley-waverly-spencer-ride.html
This is our world on two wheels. Sunday, September 13, 2009. FLCC Halsey Valley-Waverly-Spencer Ride. After my plan to take part in the epic Highlander on Saturday went down the drain because of the relatively high fee and iffy weather, I was looking forward to the FLCC ride. This was my first time on the Halsey Valley-Waverly-Spencer ride, which only had 5 cues, all right turns. Hard to make a mistake, right? Upon leaving the diner we resumed our ride on SR 34 heading north. Within the first mile a ...

Cycloblogger: PA ACP 1000K
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/06/pa-acp-1000k.html
This is our world on two wheels. Monday, June 29, 2009. An afternoon meeting was canceled, which allowed me to arrive early in Quakertown. For the first time I actually was in bed and almost asleep at 10pm for a 4am start. I was very happy to feel the cool air as I entered the hostel bedroom. There was air conditioning! A real treat on a warm night. Initially I rode up to the front to see that Patrick was leading. Where was Rick? I thought I was the last to leave the hostel. Apparently Rick had some ...

Cycloblogger: FLCC Newark Valley - Maine ride
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/09/flcc-newark-valley-maine-ride.html
This is our world on two wheels. Sunday, September 6, 2009. FLCC Newark Valley - Maine ride. I was filled with hope. I approached whom I believe was Anne Shapiro. I inquired about the rest of the group and to my dismay she said nobody had passed her, and that she was expecting it to happen at any moment. I was perplexed. Had the group taken a different route? After a couple of minutes riding with Anne, I saw a contingent of riders in my rear-view mirror. I had gotten ahead of the group! Could be heard as...

Cycloblogger: D2R2 - Deerfield Dirt Road Randonnée
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/08/d2r2-deerfield-dirt-road-randonnee.html
This is our world on two wheels. Sunday, August 16, 2009. D2R2 - Deerfield Dirt Road Randonnée. It was Brian Lawney who posted information about D2R2 a few months ago on our local cycling club list. At the time I had just finished the Shenandoah 1200K. And was getting ready for the PA 1000K. Stage 1: Deerfield to Heath (35.7 miles, 5750' total climbing). Oh, so true. Stage 2: Heath to Green River Covered Bridge (28.7 miles, 3550' total climbing). Eventually we began to descend. Is this possible? We all r...

Cycloblogger: Run, run and keep running
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/12/run-run-and-keep-running.html
This is our world on two wheels. Sunday, December 20, 2009. Run, run and keep running. I always enjoyed running, but never took it too seriously. When I did, in my teens, I got really fast and skinny, but less attractive to girls. At that point in my life girls were a lot more important to me. So I started going to the gym and stuck with soccer until 2007 when I tore my ACL. That brought me to cycling. It turned out to be about 42 miles. At the 3 mile mark. I stopped at a diner and ordered 3 eggs over an...
