https://bikesbytesbites.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/my-bicycle-accident-and-recovery-so-far
Musings about bicyling, computers (work! Food, and other topics. March 13, 2014 / bikesbytesbites. My Bicycle Accident and Recovery (So Far). Posts have been slow “recently” (ok, for the nine months) because I’ve been devoting my time and energy to recovering from a bicycling accident and, in my copious spare time, trying to get some work done. I wrote about the accident here:. Oxon Hill Bicycle Club Newsletter February 2014. Larr; Utility Bicycling on Three Continents. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

In the fall of 2012, it seemed I wasn’t getting much mileage on my bicycle. However, I more than made up for it with airline mileage, which led to some interesting exploring of bicycle facilities elsewhere. The link above is a PDF of some highlights of trips. A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: November 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Thursday, November 29, 2012. A Friend Gets Hit. Around lunchtime I drafted a witty blog that thanked a man who told me to slow down on an icy bridge on the Mount Vernon Trail. And if all had gone well I would have added to it by writing about seeing Chris from the Friday Coffee Club and having another rider ask to draft me while he caught his breath on the way home. During mid afternoon, that all went in the dumper. And Bicycling to Work. Just a few minutes before Reba's emai...
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: December 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Monday, December 10, 2012. I'm taking this blog over to Wordpress. Same stuff, different software. As of this writing, I'm still working out the kinks so check it out at:. Http:/ rootchopper.wordpress.com. Saturday, December 8, 2012. Friday Fun and the Spanish Inquisition. Skippy had a different approach. If you were disrupting his class, he'd walk up to your desk, tell you to roll up your sleeve and stick your hand out palm up. Then, he would slap your wrist with his...I hea...
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: June 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The Big 3-0 for Big Nellie. Lots of people ride their bikes more than me. In fact, there are several members of the elite Friday Coffee Club here in DC who ride more. I just tend to ride the same old bikes forever. Ten years ago, in search of a touring bike that wouldn't destroy my back I made the leap to recumbentcy. (It looks just like the leap to light speed only not.). No Decimals, I Swear. Here's the to do list. Fairing with Black Duct Tape Trim.
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: August 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. The Story of O. I have one more new tire, another 406x1.5 Schwalbe Marathon for the front of Big Nellie, I was going to put it on, but the old tire that's already on looks to be in good shape. Tomorrow Big Nellie gets the call after spending a couple of months alone in the Rootchopper Institute for Bicycle Storage. I still need to order a new seat and a new fairing for this bike but, for now, it will get me to the office. Sunday, August 26, 2012.
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: September 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Sunday, September 30, 2012. Hey, Hon, It's the Tour du Port. Last weekend I rode the 50 States Ride in DC for the 5th time. Today I took on it's cousin the Tour du Port in Baltimore. I first did this ride with my son many years ago when he was riding his 20-inch one-gear cyclecross bike. He worked his butt off on a cold day to finish 20 tough miles. We came into downtown and headed west and then south along the water. We followed the Gwynns Falls Trail which is a curious ...
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: October 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Wednesday, October 31, 2012. One More for October. Based on the scary weather reports I didn't think I'd be biking to work today. Superstorm Sandy wasn't all that bad except for lots of wind and rain. We lucked out. So here's today's tale:. My back hurt. I didn’t sleep a wink. I needed to get to work. So began my 130. Bike commute of the year. It was supposed to be cold out so I broke out my long sleeve base layer that I haven’t worn since March. The road widens to add a left...
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: April 2012
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Sunday, April 29, 2012. Back in the Saddle Again. Saturday dawmed cool and cloudy. It was supposed to warm up into the 60s so I headed out in a shirt, bike jacket and shorts. This was not nearly enough and I was uncomfortable for the entire time Big Nellie (my Tour Easy recumbent) and I were out and about. Having done my birds a good turn. I took off for a longer ride. I headed north on the Mount Vernon Trail hoping to see a bald eagle. No luck. Where do they ...I made my way...
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel: Antisocial Oversleeping
http://rootchopper.blogspot.com/2012/12/antisocial-oversleeping.html
A Few Spokes Shy of a Wheel. Thursday, December 6, 2012. Lone Ranger fanfare music. Into the kitchen to inhale some watered down OJ and Cheerios. I got a pow-pow-powerful good-good- feeling. Please note that the OJ goes in a glass not on the cereal. I would be gag-gag-gaging. In a rush, I skipped using the sinus wash thing. I went for the Flonase instead. Except the bottle is empty. This probably explains why my sinuses are unhappy as I type this. Time To. Fly. Into the slalon turns at the base of the hi...
