As of 13 November 2012, this is where we have traveled with our bikes (and hiked). If you’d like to play with it in Google Earth, you can download the .kmz file. Blue = Pickup truck (hitch or taxi). Green = other transportation with bike (car, boat). Purple = Hiked (without bike). This map is created from the output of our Garmin Edge GPS receivers. We hope to keep a record of fun things like total kilometers traveled, total meters climbed/ascended, steepest climb/ascent, etc. (this may come after the tour is over and Andrew becomes a computer programmer). As of 2012-10-14 we’ve traveled this far with the bikes:. We biked 7821 in 162 days. Traveled 2757km on buses. Traveled in pickup trucks for 386km. And 1509km in cars and boats. That’s 126473km we’ve gone with the bikes, 62.7% of which we pedaled. We biked 1639km in 37 days. Traveled 450km on buses.

Our plan is actually pretty simple:. Fly to Mexico City with all of the equipment. We need to live on bikes indefinitely, and then ride to Peru. We have each been bikers for a long time, Aran probably more seriously than Andrew (1 full and 2 half Ironmans, for example), but the idea for a tour came from friends and the internet.
