Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Shared Storytelling: Advent Ghosts 2014. Is any season lonelier than solstice? The elements shove the sun over the horizon, force the flora into the earth, drive animals deep into their dens. And what of us? What will you say to break it? Welcome to Advent Ghosts 2014, the sixth annual shared storytelling event at ISLF. 1) Email me at ISawLightningFall [at] gmail [dot] com if you want to contribute. 2) Pen an eerie little tale that's exactly. Remember this: Even though the even...

I Saw Lightning Fall: Monster Hunts Up Smart Fun
http://isawlightningfall.blogspot.com/2015/06/monster-hunts-up-smart-fun.html
Sunday, June 21, 2015. Hunts Up Smart Fun. Even before the famous theological controversy that fractured their friendship, J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis didn't always see eye to eye. Though both allegedly entered into a friendly wager. To try penning genre stories, they had distinctly different approaches. Tolkien favored meticulously crafted, internally consistent secondary worlds. But Lewis? To Butcher's The Dresden Files. The book is also more intelligent than it has any right to be. The occasiona...

Friday, October 21, 2011. Take a Tour of Low Town. Unlike many fantasy scribes, Polansky really and truly understands the grittiness of hardboiled. Unlike many crime writers, he comprehends the appeal of magical and mysterious fantasy tropes. The best part of Low Town. Picture: CC 2010 by Gianmaria Veronese. Hat Tip: Tor.com. I Saw Lightning Fall: Man, Reaper Is Funny
http://isawlightningfall.blogspot.com/2010/04/man-reaper-is-funny.html
Friday, April 2, 2010. I never really read funny fiction while growing up. Perhaps it was due to a generally introspective temperament. Maybe it was because those kinds of stories don't typically garner mainstream accolades. I even might owe it to teachers and librarians simply failing to put the right sort of book in my impressionable hands. Whatever the reason, the extent of my foray into humorous storytelling was pretty much limited to James and Deborah Howe's Bunnicula. The massive Discworld series.

I Saw Lightning Fall: Get Ready for an Obsessively Enjoyable Niche Read
http://isawlightningfall.blogspot.com/2015/06/get-ready-for-obsessively-enjoyable.html
Saturday, June 6, 2015. For an Obsessively Enjoyable Niche Read. 8221; he exclaimed. “It’s a goon box, and I’m going to throw it out the window if you don’t go outside! You wouldn’t say Wade Owen Watts’ world is in decline. Rather, you’d say it’s a semi plummeting down Pikes Peak with its brake lines cut. The worst part? Everybody knows it, which is why OASIS has become so popular. OASIS is essentially Second Life. Is anything but a niche title. But it’s still a darn enjoyable one for all that. View my c...

Thursday, May 14, 2015. Bono Busking and the Business of Artistic Fame. Last week, Jimmy Fallon posted a video that shows what happens when you take a legendary band like U2, put its members in disguise, and set them loose on the New York City subway to busk their own music. At first, only a curious few spare them a glance. But when the faux facial hair comes off . well, watch for yourself:. But when her identity got leaked, sales grew by 150,000%.
