Life as a Peace Corp volunteer in Macedonia.Part II. Friday, February 25, 2011. Just arrived at the office where the temperature appears to be close to 80. Everyone is always cold here.except me! On the walk here this morning I passed many older men along the way and realized that I have never seen any men over 40 something working anywhere except at the municipality, the post office or the police force. I recall that we had a few hot days when I arrived in early September, but by returning home last April I missed the summer season here. Lucky me! This event also coincided with the arrival of the books I had ordered from an organization in Connecticut that offers free books to Peace Corps volunteers. Darien Book is the name and all that they required was an email request stating the ages of the kids. They limit the gift to one box, weighing approximately 40 pounds. Went into Kumonovo two more times. This is the 5th or 6th time I have gone to the city with the intentions of getting my haircut while there. I have returned an equal number of times without doing so. Oh well, I still have five days till swearing in. Or maybe I will just buy a hat! Noa hat won't do it! My terrific teacher, Maya.

Life as a Peace Corp volunteer in Macedonia.Part II. Monday, December 27, 2010. A new home, the job.and the Holidays! I have been a living and working here in Kocani for just over four weeks. My apartment is on what the peace Corp referred to as the "fourth" floor. However, the first two levels have very high ceilings, the first level is home to a bank but I don’t know what is on the second level. Based on a comparison to surrounding residential structures, I am at the least five, closer to six flights up.
