Billy Scarrow's Optimists of 1938

Billy Scarrow first appeared in theatre at the Old Arcadia in Redcar where he was part of a concert party. The history of his theatrical work is somewhat sketchy, and what we konw is presented in a table below (an asterix indicates approximate dates):. Appeared as a member of a concert party. Jovial Growsers for 7 months.

If you would like to place an advert on this site, then click here. The Optimists opened the 1933 season on June 3rd at 3pm. Prices were 6d and 4d for chairs, or 3d for forms. The Cleveland Standard describes. The Optimists were not without competition in Redcar, which principally consisted of Uncle Tom at Sunshine Corner (or Moonshine Corner as it is referred to by the reader's letter on the right). Uncle Tom's shows had a religious theme to them and were possibly aimed more at children than adults.

If you would like to place an advert on this site, then click here. Due to poor takings of the previous season, Redcar Council offered Billy Scarrow a free trial for this season. The line-up for the Optimists in 1932 were Billy Scarrow (Tenor), Ted Duncan, Eva Walker, Mabs Haworth, Billy Walters and Billy Lambert (pianist and piano-accordianist). Billy Scarrow was by now a household name in Redcar, and to that end wrote a piece in the Cleveland Standard on how to do exercises.
