Handwork Teacher Blog of student's work and general musings of a handwork specialist. Thursday, January 3, 2013. Handwork update and Happy New Year! Winter break has been wonderful! It's time to review the last half of the school year and gear up for the next few months. Here are some pictures of where we are in some of my classes. First time I really gave artistic freedom.these are only a few, and I will try to post all of them because they really are so creative and are really enjoying it!

Ithaca Waldorf Handwork and more. Monday, July 27, 2015. Adventures in natural dyeing. Yarn drying after the mordant process so I could store it before I used it. There was a lot of yarn this year - almost double and I'm not done yet - just a few more over-dyeing to go. I really love my yard. I found many great oranges this year. Ithaca Waldorf Handwork and more. Friday, May 8, 2015. I have been dyeing a long time now and I am still finding new to-me dyes that are exciting. Bloodroot is the new one for me this Spring. Its an old Native American dye and has been used for centuries. What took me so long? Its orange - bright beautiful orange. I diced the fresh rhizomes up and warmed up the pot to just below boil. I also have a few drying and I am also putting this jar in the sun to see if a slow cool seep changes the color.

Ithaca Waldorf Handwork and more. Monday, May 4, 2015. I have finally taught a 'proper' workshop on plant dyeing. I have had many dyeing sessions with friend, and at work, but this one was the first attempt at an organized event. Thank you Craftstitute. For creating space here in Ithaca where artists can come and have a space to teach a class. I think it went off very well and I hope my - newly addicted to color friends - agree. Ithaca Waldorf Handwork and more. Sunday, March 8, 2015. I had so much fun this weekend. It took way too much time, but to play with melting swirling colors in small pots? Im all over that! This is years worth of old crayons from the waldorf school I teach at. The dark brown/red and the 2 blues are the hardest to sort - I had to draw to see the colors. I got much better at pouring. Large soup can (like Progressive soup - top red one) are a bit too large -. Don't fill the soup cans more than half full -.
