An Agave harvest and roast was organized for three Cal-State University – San Marcos (CSUSM) classes who collaborate on ethnobotany and service learning projects. It was organized by Lydia Vassar, Luiseño basketweaver, teacher and traditional foods specialist, and Daniel McCarthy, USFS Tribal Liaison. Agave is a traditional food for Southern California Native American communities. Agave deserti ready to be harvested.
