The Sequence Manipulation Suite
http://www.bioinformatics.org/sms2
Use this site off-line. The Sequence Manipulation Suite is a collection of JavaScript programs for generating, formatting, and analyzing short DNA and protein sequences. It is commonly used by molecular biologists, for teaching, and for program and algorithm testing. See the about the Sequence Manipulation Suite. Page for more information about individual Sequence Manipulation Suite programs. You can easily mirror the Sequence Manipulation Suite. On your own web site, or you can use it off-line.
Reverse Translate
http://www.bioinformatics.org/sms2/rev_trans.html
Use this site off-line. Reverse Translate accepts a protein sequence as input and uses a codon usage table to generate a DNA sequence representing the most likely non-degenerate coding sequence. A consensus sequence derived from all the possible codons for each amino acid is also returned. Use Reverse Translate when designing PCR primers to anneal to an unsequenced coding sequence from a related species. Please check the browser compatibility. Page before using this program. http://thescientistblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/spleen-may-be-source-of-versatile-stem_26.html
Wednesday, January 26, 2005. Spleen may be source of versatile stem cells. Year ago, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers discovered that the spleen might be a source of adult stem cells that could regenerate the insulin-producing islets of the pancreas. In a follow-up to that unexpected finding, members of the same team now report that these potential adult stem cells produce a protein previously believed to be present only during the embryonic development of mammals. We know that if you hav...

http://thescientistblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/lack-of-enzyme-turns-fat-cells-into.html
Monday, January 24, 2005. Lack of enzyme turns fat cells into fat burners. Lack of the enzyme, acetyl CoA carboxylase 2 or ACC2, appears to turn the adipose or fat cells of mice into fat burners, explaining in part why the animals can eat more and weigh less than their normal counterparts, said Baylor College of Medicine researchers. The report that appears online today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Posted by FiReaNG3L @ 8:13:00 PM. Stem cell research, Gene Synthesis, Microarray...

http://thescientistblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/enzyme-lost-in-most-mammals-is-shown.html
Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Enzyme, lost in most mammals, is shown to protect against UV-induced skin cancer. Thus, most mammals, including humans, can only repair these lesions through a much less direct and elaborate process called nucleotide excision repair. In the new work, Dr. Bert van der Horst and colleagues studied the effects of CPD and 6-4PP lesions by providing mice with transgenes encoding CPD and 6-4PP photolyase enzymes. Sunday, January 23, 2005. Current human embryonic stem cell lines contaminated UCSD/Salk team finds. Currently available lines of human embryonic stem cells have been contaminated with a non-human molecule that compromises their potential therapeutic use in human subjects, according to research by investigators at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine and the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. The research in Nature Medicine was done with human embryonic stem cells grown ...
