Biology and Blueberries: Snow Day #4!
http://biologyandblueberries.blogspot.com/2011/02/snow-day-4.html
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas A. Edison. Tuesday, February 22, 2011. I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately. We had off yesterday for Presidents' Day, and today was our fourth snow day! There wasn't really that much snow on the ground, but it was very nice to have a four-day weekend. Hopefully, we won't pay for this relaxation in June. Posted by Ms. Cyanococcus. Labels: things that make me happy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas A. Edison. Tuesday, December 21, 2010. I gave my forensic science kids a 2-minute murder mystery to solve. The clue was that the murder took place on a Sunday, and the murderer was a maid, whose alibi was that she was out fetching the mail. I tried to guide a group of students to the solution. Well, my mail comes on Sundays. I live in the ghetto. I guess the ghetto mailman brings it on Sundays. Posted by Ms. Cyanococcus. Me: In the...

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas A. Edison. Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Today is the first day of our spring break, even though I think all of us, teachers and students alike, checked out last Friday afternoon. Nevertheless, I intend to blog regularly this week, with musings, funny and frustrating student quotes I haven't yet posted, and possibly even a breakdown of my grades this marking period! That should make shivers run down your spine! Monday, March 29, 2010.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas A. Edison. Sunday, June 20, 2010. Our last day of school with students was Friday. (I saw a grand total of 4 students. However, I did teach a bunch of kids how to play SET. I also went on a long walk with one of my students and gave a very compelling speech about why she should think seriously about college.). Tomorrow is the last day of school for faculty and staff. Posted by Ms. Cyanococcus. Friday, June 18, 2010. Posted by Ms...

Distrusting concentrations of power. When you hear the word “ anarchism. David Brooks observes how, while federal politics is wrapped up in detached partisanship, city politics is very much grounded in reality. Brooks writes:. Are fighting to take back. Their land from those who are exploiting it. We can expect that more local autonomy would lead to better custodianship of the environment. So suppose they create their own jobs; suppose they elect or appoint not 10 leaders but hundreds and even thousands ...

Our corporations are leaving us behind. Corporations have instead focused on their brands. They have been buying cheaply-made products, marketing them, and selling them at a much higher price than the cost of manufacture. Where they used to create solid manufacturing jobs, they now create so-called McJobs. Observes that–though it seems like corporations keep getting bigger–they are actually becoming smaller and more lightweight as they shed employees and factories. How far we’ve been left behind. Why we ...

Diminishing food production: a big problem. While we face many humanity-endangering threats in the 21st century, perhaps the biggest is the prospect that population growth may outpace grain production. Already we live on a planet where nearly a billion people are undernourished because of poverty and unavailability of food. Food riots broke out in the summer of 2008. The high price of food may have precipitated. Than ever before. The West has helped farmers pump groundwater to irrigate their fields a...

Food insecurity | The Daily Banana

Some have argued that the unrest in the Middle East has been caused in part by the recent surge in food prices around the world. The average Tunisian or Egyptian spends much more. Среда, 15 июня 2011 г. Induction Of Antibodies That Block HIV Prevented By Biological Catch-22. Scientists seeking to understand how to make an AIDS vaccine have found the cause of a major roadblock. It turns out that the immune system can indeed produce cells with the potential to manufacture powerful HIV-blocking antibodies - but at the same time, the immune system works equally hard to make sure these cells are eliminated before they have a chance to mature. To see if this is indeed what happens, Laur...
