Ana bilim dalı, 1982 Yılında Tıp Fakültesi Temel Tıp Bilimleri Bölümü Tıbbi Biyoloji Ana Bilim Dalı'na bağlı bilim dalı olarak kurulmuştur. Ana bilim dalı, başta tıp fakültesi biyoistatistik ve bilgisayar dersleri olmak üzere merkez yerleşkesindeki diğer fakülte ve yüksek okullardaki biyoistatistik ve bilgisayar derslerini yürütmektedir. Ana bilim dalı, 1996 yılında Tıbbi Biyoloji Ana bilim dalından ayrılarak temel tıp bilimlerine bağlı ana bilim dalı statüsüne kavuşmuştur.
