Harakeke Happenings

Birchwood School Web site. Posting and Commenting Guidelines. Sunday, 27 November 2016. For Home Learning this term the students in Harakeke had to work on a self-directed project. This had to involve new learning and a challenge. Here are a sample so far:. Jade learnt how to knit and created this beautiful hat. Maya wanted to run 5km in less than 30 minutes and actually managed to record a time of just over 28 minutes. Wow! Mia drew this map of NZ and highlighted places that were important to her family.

Birchwood School Web site. Posting and Commenting Guidelines. Sunday, 24 July 2016. Last term we looked at what Science means and how it affects us everyday. For reading we looked at a variety of books and had to find the link with science. We learnt that part of science is to understand our world better and at times to make it a better place. We also had to make a ramp that made a marble travel for 1 metre. In this investigation we learnt to modify our ideas in order to find a solution. This term the ar...

Birchwood School Web site. Posting and Commenting Guidelines. Posting and Commenting Guidelines. Our classroom blog is a place for us to share our hard work and to continue discussions that we have started in class. Writing comments is an important part of that process. Students should be mindful of what they post to the Internet. With that in mind, there are a few guidelines I would like for you to follow. Do not post your address, phone number, or email address on the blog. One space after each word.

Maya got a first place prize and Joel came second. They both received some great prizes. Here they are with their winnings! These were their poems:. My Guinea Pig Blackie. EnviroBlog: September 2014

http://envrioblogbirchwood.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 22 September 2014. Over the winter our veges have been slowly growing! This week we were able to harvest some of our vegetables. The broccoli was enormous and the cabbages are going to be giants too but the celery is not so successful. We were pleased to hear that the Juniors have been keeping an eye out for great white butterflies in our garden and have been frequently swooping around with a net! We plan to make a pot of soup with some of the produce. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Term 4 - Week 10.

http://envrioblogbirchwood.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 1 July 2014. Composting / Worm Farm Workshop. On Tuesday 24th June we were lucky to have Sarah Langi from The Nelson Environment Centre at school. Sarah talked to the Envirogroup about worms and how to keep a healthy worm farm. She had a worm farm to show us with the scrap layer, compost produced by the worms and also the last container that collected worm juice or 'liquid gold'! We were able to have a close encounter with some of the worms. Check out some photos of our productive afternoon.

Thursday, 22 November 2012. WOW WHAT A SHOW. At the Kapa Haka Minifest there were a lot of schools from around Stoke. When we got up on stage it was a bit scary because. Everyone was looking at you.
