Surviving the Raging Twenties: Pheasent Hunting

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2010/03/pheasent-hunting.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Even though I grew up with the reality of death-to-animals-that-you-can-. Here’s something I learned about myself- I quite enjoy hunting. I now understand that hunting is a really good excuse to go for a walk, to hang out with your dog and to do some bushwhacking. Bringing home dinner is merely a bonus. March 19, 2010 at 8:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. A Few New Old Things.

Surviving the Raging Twenties: November 2009

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Monday, November 9, 2009. A childhood confession about hats. What's next you might ask? I received 9 hanks of yarn in the mail today and will begin knitting a sweater for Nic that I've been threatening to knit for some time now. That should keep me busy and out of trouble. Sunday, November 1, 2009. Not wanting to re-invent the wheel, I did some internet investigating and found a handy tutorial about how to make an octopus costume, which I model...

Surviving the Raging Twenties: Grown-up Spaghetti.

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2010/04/grown-up-spaghetti.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Saturday, April 10, 2010. Nothing has quite the positive impact on my disposition than spending an afternoon in the kitchen. Scratch that- Nothing has quite the positive impact on my disposition than finding fresh rhubarb at the grocery store (thanks Pacific NW! And spending an afternoon in the kitchen with Garth Brooks and a beer. I baked the rhubarb pie. That I love so dearly- and remembered to take a photo this time! 1 egg plus 3 yolks.

Surviving the Raging Twenties: July 2009

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Sunday, July 19, 2009. 1/2 Lamb. Roasted. In a box. Which brings me to our 1/2 lamb roast that we had earlier this week. Some of the sheep on the ranch have become renegades- jumping through barbed wire fences and hiding in the neighboring cliffs. One of the recaptured lambs was taken to the local meat locker and made an example of what happens to naughty sheep. Thursday, July 16, 2009. Montana has wheat fields. I have learned several of these ...

Surviving the Raging Twenties: October 2009

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Tuesday, October 13, 2009. The Shover was about a foot and one half tall about a foot deep, and made of solid wood and painted a rich royal blue. It had four square compartments stacked directly on top of one another and was topped with a tin roof and a little tin bird adorning the space directly under the roof. We had found the solution to our mail clutter. Has anyone seen the water bill? Yeah, I put it in your Shover.". I made The Shover 2&#4...

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Monday, June 29, 2009. I have been excited about fava beans for, oh, 3 months. I kept hoping to see them at the Farmer's market, and almost gave up hope of getting some local beans. This Saturday at the farmers market was a successful day for fava beans. I saw a sign that said 'Fava Beans- $2 a pound, $1.25 a pound if you buy 20 or more pounds'- which I thought was a little excessive. I bought about 1.5 pounds of beans. Add a couple splashes of...

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Thursday, September 24, 2009. I have come to the conclusion that this blog is serving dual purposes- keep people updated on the haps' in Montana as well as chronicling my crafty endeavors (have I already said this? This post will be of the former. Speaking of conquering, with the help of a very helpful book entitled Pie in the Sky: Successful Baking at High Altitudes. I have conquered my fear of baking in Montana! Lastly, Dear old dad came out ...

Surviving the Raging Twenties: December 2009

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Tuesday, December 29, 2009. Ohio for the Holidays. Ohio was quite lovely. I had never visited this state and aside from finding out that where we were staying was referred to locally as 'Cancer Valley' found both the surrounding and the contents quite agreeable. The part of Ohio where we stayed is in the southern-ish eastern corner of the state where the hills roll and so do the buggies of the Amish. And so Nic made Lussekatter (Saffron buns).

http://comptastic.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Wednesday, April 14, 2010. I have made the decision to move over to WordPress. I know this may seem abrupt, but it's a move I've been pondering for a while now. Please follow the link below and tell your friends. Sunday, April 11, 2010. Headbands- the herald of spring? It's not too often that I post a photo of myself up here, but in this instance I do so to enhance the product of my labors today. Oh yes, did I mention they're reversible! I bake...

Surviving the Raging Twenties: February 2010

Surviving the Raging Twenties. Projects, nostalgia, musings. Sunday, February 14, 2010. Round Food Pt. 2- Sourdough Pancakes. Much like the residents of Alaska, Montanans also had their sourdough, and they made pancakes as well as loaves of bread. This recipe was taken from this book. I love my weekend mornings, and I especially enjoy having company on weekends, when I can turn on the stove and flip pancakes happily while drinking coffee and engaging in morning banter. 2 c sourdough starter. I want to ta...

Bird and Branch Redesign

April 16, 2013. Finally, Some "After" Pics. That title might be a tad misleading, but this is where we're at with the room. We used everything we already had for the big stuff, but used the wall color Great Barrington Green. It's a Benjamin Moore color, but I got it color matched to Lowes Olympic. We love it. It's kind of the perfect combination for us. It makes the room moody, but it also gives the room a totally new look. Hopefully that'll get done this week.hopefully. Love to all,. March 27, 2013.

Reflections on a Decade of Marriage. Most people say that marriage is. For some, I’m certain that it is. But from where I stand, on this my 10. Wedding anniversary, it’s really that it’s life. There are bills to pay, big decisions to make and two children that simultaneously fill our home with the greatest measure of joy imaginable and pull-your-hair-out, crazy-making strife. Who would say ‘I’m sorry’, and really mean it. Who would go to the doctor’s appointments, coach the li...Despite the hard stuff, t...
