From Richard Mallery a.k.a. Dick E. Bird's book Birdfeeding 101. Everything you wanted to know about feeding birds but were afraid to ask. Friday, September 26, 2008. The first thing I’d do is head straight for a yard full of bird feeders and settle down. 8226; Since the forelimbs of birds are adapted for flying, it is necessary for them to have well developed bills and feet for ...

Thursday, July 17, 2008. Two Lads From Across the Pond Take The Challenge. All European hikes seem like a walk in the park compared to the adventure Paul Hayton of Eaglescliffe has embarked on. The 31-year-old senior designer is on a mission to cover 3,100 miles on foot from Mexico to Canada. Carrying all they need to survive on their backs, the duo are walking more than 20 miles a day, six days a week for six months through mountainous terrain. Friday, March 9, 2007. Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park. I found not only the wolf study interesting but also their personal life, raising a family on the island during the summers. Hikers are lucky to see a wolf, or hear them for that matter. They blend extremely efficiently into the island’s surroundings. At night it is more common to hear the haunting sound of the loon and the waves lapping on shore seeping through the tent walls. Another plus for late August is the fact that the weather can still...

Sunday, June 3, 2007. Continental Divide Trail- White Goat Wilderness. I often think about space in time. It takes a leap of faith and much effort to place yourself into special moments during your life. This valley between two unnamed passes would be one of my moments. I was gone at first light and never saw a soul. The trail was a mud bog and full of wolf tracks. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I thought the wolves must run the trail all night. There were miles of prints. Hiking a...I soon discovered the t...
