birding never sleeps: A Sussex Squacco ... at last
http://birdingneversleeps.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-sussex-squacco-at-last.html
Friday, 3 July 2015. A Sussex Squacco . at last. I set out for work and realised as soon as I was halfway down our road that I had forgotten to put my small binoculars in my bag. Already a bit late it didn't seen worth going back for them, after all it was early July and even after this amazing spring it seemed a safe bet that I wouldn't need them. Well I got that wrong! Matt and Jake phoned to let me know (many thanks guys, very much appreciated as I might not have checked my pager for hours! One of 14 ...

Joe's Blog: The Year List - January 2015
http://joebirding.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-year-list-january-2015.html
Monday, 26 January 2015. The Year List - January 2015. This year I have decided to try and photograph as many bird species as I can in a year. The only rule is that you have to be able to identify the bird in the picture. Here's a few of my favourites so far. The Oystercatcher was in Poole Harbour, off Shore Road. When Radipole is in sunlight it can be a real treat. Here's a Teal and a Mallard that were close to the bridge. This Great Tit was in the scrub by the car park at Durlston.

birding never sleeps: May 2015

Saturday, 30 May 2015. Red-necked Phalarope (Sidlesham, 30 May). Black-winged Stilt at the rear of Sidlesham Ferry pool. A very pale legged individual. At least it was large enough to get reasonable digiscoped images. On a rare foray to the near side of the ferry pool, where the mud was much thicker! Red-necked Phalarope on Sidlesham Ferry. Found by John King while I was looking the other way. I thought it was a female. Although head-on images are not so convincing. A splendid bird whatever. During a wal...

Joe's Blog: In the Shadows - 13th December 2014
http://joebirding.blogspot.com/2014/12/in-shadows-saturday-13th-december-2014.html
Wednesday, 17 December 2014. In the Shadows - 13th December 2014. The sun coming out didn't really help because it came from where we were pretty much facing so the light wasn't very good. But it helped in the way that there was actually some form of a light source. The light did, however create an interesting sky with a silhouette of a Robin according to Dad, but I'm not convinced! Saturday, 28 June 2014. Looking for Nightjars again - 27th June 2014. Accompanied by Gabe, we set out to look for Nightjars, which Gabe had never seen before. We were welcomed rather nicely by a beautiful sunset. Gull flying across the sunset. Just one of the very few birds that we sighted on the heath. Deer were out and about on the heath as we continued to search for the nocturnal creatures. Saturday, 7 June 2014. Families Everywhere - 7th June 2014. Sunday, 1 June 2014. Saturday, 28 March 2015. Another Gull at Radipole - 27th March 2015. Considering that it was a dull grey day, we didn't spend long taking photos but these were the best I got. For much better photos when the bird was at Radipole previously, go to Peter Moore's blog. And scroll down until you get to the title: Waiting for a gull like you. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Joe's Blog: July 2014

Saturday, 12 July 2014. What a lot of Gulls - 12th July 2014. Gull should really be called the Black-headed Gull. As you can see, the head is jet black rather than the chocolaty colour of the Black-headed Gull. There is also no black tip in the wing for adult Mediterranean Gulls. Ferrybridge had lots of Gulls out on the mud. This Black-headed Gull is definitely different to the Mediterranean Gull. Probably the closest I have ever got to a Herring Gull, informally known as the Seagull.

Joe's Blog: Finally! - 8th February 2015
http://joebirding.blogspot.com/2015/02/finally-8th-february-2015.html
Sunday, 8 February 2015. After impatiently waiting for a while, the Bearded Tits eventually started to work their way over into the sunlight. However this was the start of another problem, the wind which was blowing like mad outside the shield of the Visitor Centre. With the reeds moving and the birds facing the wrong way, it took a while to get the right shot but I finally got it. Here's another one of the best pics but not quite as good as the first one.
