I spotted this Peregrine Falcon perched in a tree near the Canon City Valco ponds where it was apparently looking for prey. Before I could get a shot off with it perched it took off and circled the ponds, flying fast. I got this pic at 1/2000th of a second, but even at this fast camera speed it was not fast enough to get a good pic of this fast flyer. SeEtta. Make your own badge here.

As I drove out of Florence, the little town near Canon City, I spotted a pair of Bullock's Orioles foraging in a cottonwood tree near the road. I was able to get these pics from inside my car. We didn't have any luck with the track so we detoured onto some side roads to see what we could see. We drove right past this Scaled Quail perched on a fence post and Bill had to back up so I could get a picture. Another lark and another beautiful singer - a Western Meadowlark with what looks like lunch in his mouth. Check out those ears!

Sunday, December 26, 2010. Eclipse on the Winter solstice. It was chilly but the perfect night to try and capture the total eclipse of the moon last week. On the night of December 21 I stayed up to digiscope the event. Using my Swarovski spottingscope and 20x60 eyepiece and a Leica DLUX-4 camera with a modified Leica digiscope adapter I got these shots. Moon pre-eclipse at 9:42 PM 21 Dec. Moon at 12:28 AM 22 DEC.
