From Seed to Scrumptious. Monday, March 16, 2015. Happy Birthday to Me. Spring may be coming after all. This past Thursday was my birthday. Daughter Barb and family visited yesterday and brought this beautiful present from them and from daughter Emily and family. What a great way to chase away the winter grays. Thank you all. Thanks Barb and Em. Saturday, March 7, 2015. Yep, I just looked at Johnnies. Boo, hiss. During my internet search, I saw that Trader Joe's carries the kale sprouts, and a visit to m...

From Seed to Scrumptious. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Kohlrabi, just before pulling June 16, 2015. Some vegetables are certainly weird looking in the garden. Some have never been eaten by more than a handful of veggie buyers. Some people don't know what part of the veggie they are supposed to eat. Well, kohlrabi fits all those statements. The first time I grew it was just to see what it looked like. It is neat to look at, and delicious to eat. So what part do you eat? So how do you eat this thing? A trip thr...

From Seed to Scrumptious. Friday, August 8, 2014. This is the state of the kitchen yesterday morning. The new granite counter top is in, having replaced the wood edged blue formica counter we put in 23 years ago. Got our use out of that one. The 23 year old stove was still working, though got tossed so a new one would have proper measurements with the new granite. The old wood cabinets remain, though look nicer with the new counter. Slightly different angle and lighting. Let the back splash work begin.

From Seed to Scrumptious. Friday, April 11, 2014. With the long miserable winter having dampened my usual seeding frenzy, I am behind in starting my veggies. So to get started as quickly as possible, and to be able to monitor the progress, I started seeds on Wednesday and Thursday using the damp paper towel method. And treasures they are. I am so glad that variety chose to be the first out of the gate. Malabar Spinach from my own 2013 seed. Peppers: Cubanelle, Golden Treasure, Poblano, and Sweet Banana.

This post is part two of my photo essay on preparing a log to be part of a wall. I described milling and chalking the log. As promised in a previous post. Here is a step-by-step account of transforming the structural material-formerly-known-as-tree. The log is now bald, having had its bark and. Plans (almost entirely contained in his head), The Husband measures and marks the log for its cuts.
