Birds of the Heath

Friday, 14 August 2015. As we had business to the west of Norwich, Linda and I decided to have a look for Clouded Yellows at Queen's Hills, Costessey. Despite a long walk around the excellent habitat of the Circular Path, we saw very few butterflies at all: just lots of Brown and Southern Hawkers and a Buzzard. Still: a terrific spot with great potential. Thursday, 13 August 2015. Fen dipping and Willow Emeralds! It wasn't seen today. Hmmmmm. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Birds of the Heath: Home again!

http://birdsoftheheath.blogspot.com/2015/08/home-again.html

Monday, 10 August 2015. Great to be safely back home in East Norfolk: obviously I'll miss the radically different flora and fauna, and regret not adding Cirl Bunting to the self-photographed list, but I. Miss the smell of the calves and their ordure just outside the bedroom window! I took advice from the RSPB and a few local birders, all of whom said Broadsands and Berry Head were '.dead certs, even in the Summer! By the warden that he hadn't seen a CB at either place for months! Red and purple flowers.

Birds of the Heath: Birds of the Heath (Cavenham Heath, that is!)

http://birdsoftheheath.blogspot.com/2015/05/birds-of-heath-cavenham-heath-that-is.html

Wednesday, 20 May 2015. Birds of the Heath (Cavenham Heath, that is! I'm not a massive fan of dead horse flogging, so the report of a SP Red-necked Grebe at Lackford was enough to cause me to abandon my plan to walk around the Fen and drive southwards. There were lots of people at the lakes, but sadly the target bird seemed to have decamped overnight: I remember now why I gave up twitching! Now and again a frame-filling flew over, doing circuits out of Mildenhall. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Autistic Naturalist: Aug 3rd Minsmere

http://seanspetmonster.blogspot.com/2015/08/aug-3rd-minsmere_3.html

Monday, 3 August 2015. A sweltering day out at Minsmere with temperatures at around 25 °. A few painted ladies have made a long migration from Morocco to come feed from these buddleia bushes. The invasion of these lovely butterflies appears to be a small one this year, but maybe it will be next year in which we will get an invasion where fields and trees are covered in them across the country. It won't be long now I expect! The paler Spotted Redshank. Common Tern with a fish. Diving down for lunch! My CM...

The Autistic Naturalist: How To Draw: Bats

http://seanspetmonster.blogspot.com/2015/08/how-to-draw-bats.html

Saturday, 15 August 2015. How To Draw: Bats. Post has all the information you need, just replace the birds with bats. Redraw the outlines in pen and shade in the wings and tail, but be careful not go over the wing's framework or the legs. Lightly shade in the body, creating a texture of fur by making a layer of tiny lines. The head is a slightly darker shade and the ears have lightly dark centres with light lines representing blood vessels. Saturday, August 15, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Patch Birding - North Walsham. Garden List - North Walsham. Patch Birding - Whitlingham. Garden List - Norwich. Like a 'classic' bird race the task is simply to see as many different bird species as possible within a single day, but rather than 'race' against other teams we are the only team so we always win. For us a total 100 species is considered victorious. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. BROADLAND: Calthorpe fungus foray. Birds of the Heath. 1st Sept Garden and work wildlife.

Patch Birding - North Walsham. Garden List - North Walsham. Patch Birding - Whitlingham. Garden List - Norwich. Monday, 9 March 2015. With the days starting to lengthen I can once again look out for birds while travelling to work. On the 3. While walking along the River Wensum, I saw my first Kingfisher and Grey Wagtail of the year, and I have seen the wagtails several mornings since. Driving to work on the 18. A Woodcock flew through the lights outside the house as we waited, and on the 19.

Marshland Meanderings: August 2014

http://marshlandmeanderings.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

The comings and goings of birds on a Norfolk grazing marsh with occasional forays further afield. Monday, 25 August 2014. Red-backed Shrike and Passenger Pigeons. The nearby Hobbies added to the local raptor success story with at least two very vocal youngsters fledging on Friday. Bizarrely, one flew past the house calling loudly after dark last night. It was hunting very actively and successfully, catching insects almost every time it sallied from its perches on various bramble patches. Flies, bees ...

Marshland Meanderings: March 2014

The comings and goings of birds on a Norfolk grazing marsh with occasional forays further afield. Saturday, 29 March 2014. Dusky Warbler at Oulton Marshes. It was quiet again in the lambing field this morning and younger daughter wanted me out of the way to prepare a Mothers Day surprise giving me the perfect excuse for a visit to the Dusky. Walking back along Fisher Row, Brimstone, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell butterflies were out in force and a familiar song revealed my first Blackcap of the year.

Moysie's Birding Blog: Little Bittern at Lakenheath and another day at Minsmere!

http://moysiesbirdtrips.blogspot.com/2015/05/little-bittern-at-lakenheath-and.html

Saturday, 30 May 2015. Little Bittern at Lakenheath and another day at Minsmere! On Wednesday, Dad and I headed for Lakenheath to hopefully connect with the Little Bittern. The plan was to arrive at 9:30, see the bird within an hour, then head off to North Norfolk for Dotterel. Sadly, 3 hours later, at 12:30, there was still no flight views, but the bird was constantly calling all day. Turn the volume up loud to hear it 'croaking'. I then swapped, and I went into Island Mere for the rest of the morning&#...

Eastern Bush Chat: April 2015

http://easternbushchat.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

A ramble through the life of a birder and wildlife enthusiast based in the beautiful county of Norfolk. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Gorillas That Are Missed. Friday, 24 April 2015. A lone migrant making its way north through Israel. These perky birds seemed to appear out of nowhere whistling their three note. Welcome as soon as we stepped out of the car. They were after free hand-outs. And as soon as they realised none were forthcoming upped and disappeared. Another scavenger that seemed quite used to people.

Two years has flown by rather fast, but Looking For Melody is at last released to the world for all its french-jazz-in-black-and-white needs. It was truly a pleasure to make this film and a remarkable experience to watch these fellows play their music in such wonderful environments, not to mention their patience as a strange chap with a camera lurks around distracting them. Go take a look, who knows, you might manage all 50 minutes of it. April 6, 2014. Melody’s Pop Art. Howdy Here’s the Poster for.
