Code Tweed: on the Hospital Librarian. Part of my weekly duties as a circ assistant at a research hospital/medical school library is to do the book drop run on OHSU's Aerial Tram. With all the business that comes along with it - the sickness, the pain, the anxious families, and sometimes the sadness. But then, walking through the halls on a routine morning, you might get a jarring reminder. What Do We Say to Term 2? A Few Other Blogs I Like To Read. In the Library With the Lead Pipe. The Empty and Fulfilling Winter Break | chris worland
https://chrisworland.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/the-empty-and-fulfilling-winter-break
The Empty and Fulfilling Winter Break. January 5, 2015. The first day back at work after a long winter break. It’s one of the nice perks about being in academic librarianship – (usually) being given several days off for vacation and “administrative closures.”. It’s easy to answer the inevitable question of “Did you do anything over break? 8221; with “not much.”. Happy new year everyone and I hope you had a fulfilling winter break! Is it the sunshine? There’s a bit of Banality in all of us. March 18, 2013. What is the impulse behind media applications — especially photo apps such as instagram, hipstamatic, toy camera, etc. — that drives contemporary culture to aestheticize a media-based memory, that collectively may or may not be true? Is it about the ruination of the image? Is it genetic or shared memory? How do these applications tell lies about the now? How do they reconfigure “scopic field”, and how are they “vocative”? Emotional Mindfulness | chris worland
https://chrisworland.wordpress.com/2015/11/24/emotional-mindfulness
November 24, 2015. Emotional mindfulness. It’s not something that comes up in the context of work too often, unless we’re talking about work-life balance. That sort of balance is. What I’m writing about here. Here’s the catalyst to get me thinking about emotions, actions, mindfulness, and the need to be mindful of my workplace emotional self. So much of our working lives (at least in the academic / instruction librarian section) focus on both our own and our students intellectual and cognitive engagement...

Back from…where am I? June 6, 2012. A lot has happened since I last wrote (part of the reason there has been a gap). First: I moved. I accepted an Instructional Services Librarian position at Illinois State University in Normal, IL (part of Bloomington-Normal – and yes, the “normal” jokes are already rolling in). My wife and I moved in early May, which was right around the second point. That it’s hard to pinpoint any one thing. I’ll keep you posted. The landscape of CMSsssss. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

A balanced and thoughtful approach to all this SOPA business without flippantly dismissing it (or blindly agreeing with it). Today, while the SOPA/PIPA debate is very much in the forefront of people’s thoughts, we’re happy to welcome this guest post on SOPA. Failure | chris worland
https://chrisworland.wordpress.com/2014/06/11/failure
June 11, 2014. I hear and read a lot about innovation, creativity, organizational culture, assessment, and basically everything related to building a better library organization. In all of this I also hear a lot about failure. That we should learn from it. That we shouldn’t be afraid to fail. That it is inevitable, especially if we are taking risks, trying new ideas or services. Why did it fail? What were some of the issues and/or causes? I don’t want to be overly pessimistic or unappreciative....I’...
Finding a voice | chris worland

September 27, 2013. September 27, 2013. Specifically, my voice. It’s been quite some time since I’ve published anything in this format (or any format for that matter). I looked over the very few and very general posts that I’ve made so far. I had the intent of creating a more well-rounded online personality, something that was more than facebook or random mentions or contact information listed on an employer website. What are some of your habits to make sure you aren’t shrugging off writing? You are comm...
