Investigation and appreciation of invasive species. Tuesday, November 20, 2012. I have been thinking about passports for non-human animals and plants. Here is a real world application of animal passports with real consequences for the animals involved. Wolves on the border of Norway and Sweden. Thursday, November 15, 2012. An interesting study about bird evolution. Has been getting press as much for its beautiful info graphic as what the study found. Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Celebrating the most inclusive clade including Passer domesticus. But not Dromiceiomimus brevitertius. Most of the time. Friday, June 20, 2014. National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo. The National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo is big. Not as big as the AMNH. Dinosaurs have a dedicated hall to themselves on a different floor from the other fossil displays. The first exhibit compares the skeleton of a human with that of Bambiraptor. One thing especially nice to see at the museum: cladograms!

Celebrating the most inclusive clade including Passer domesticus. But not Dromiceiomimus brevitertius. Most of the time. Monday, March 3, 2014. American Museum of Natural History Round Two. Get trip reports up in a reasonable amount of time. Who knew? Once again the opportunity to visit the AMNH. Had exposed itself, so of course I was coming along. Being a stem mammal rather than a reptile showed that quality science education is not for naught. Remains of pikas (and a hamster) preserved together, probab...

Celebrating the most inclusive clade including Passer domesticus. But not Dromiceiomimus brevitertius. Most of the time. Monday, February 2, 2015. New poll for last year's maniraptors up. From the limited number of votes, it would look like Skull is the current fan favorite! Was it because of the stunts he pulled in Turn to Stone. His quest for popularity may not be so hopeless after all. Which, in addition to that, is a charismatically-sized animal. Second place, however, may be up for grabs. Though tha...

Celebrating the most inclusive clade including Passer domesticus. But not Dromiceiomimus brevitertius. Most of the time. Tuesday, April 1, 2014. It's been a year since the clade Volantia was established, uniting all flying organisms as a monophyletic group. Hot off the presses today, the next stage in advancing research of this newly recognized clade has been unveiled. What does that mean? One of the most common criticisms leveled at the original paper coining Volantia was its choice of unicorns as the o...
