On Saturday evening I attended a session on squatting in London, hosted by the estimable Influx Press. And featuring writer and activist ‘Furious’ George F and poet Paul Hawkins, who together combined passion, humour and rage in roughly equal proportions. And in his forthcoming collection, Place Waste Dissent. Due to be published by Influx in October. Housing is a human right. Squat the lot. Thanks f...

Writing from the head and the heart. We need to talk about clothing What the French ‘burkini’ ban says about what we wear. August 24, 2016. August 24, 2016. It seems increasingly important amidst the heat of the burkini debate to ask ourselves what exactly is the purpose of all these clothes that we insist on wearing? So is it the clothing itself the burkinis and hijabs and niqabs and burkas that we object to? Keeping it in the family. July 9, 2016. July 9, 2016. Will help to remind you. June 9, 2015.

Writing from the head and the heart. Clothes, Music, Boys. June 2, 2015. June 4, 2015. I’ve recently finished reading Clothes Clothes Clothes Music Music Music Boys Boys Boys, Viv Albertine. 8216;s autobiography (opens in new window). If the name Viv Albertine means nothing to you, she was the guitarist in The Slits, who were and possibly still are an experimental band originally formed in 1976 with strong links to the punk movement. Bernie Rhodes hates me. I know I’m crap, but I know the songs are good.

Writing from the head and the heart. My dad and I sit there for a minute, backs to the sun, before he remembers where he is, relaxes his grip, and slowly begins to unwrap his fingers from where they’ve been trying to possess my bicep. Even after he takes his hand away, the imprint remains five points of perfect pain; five slow bruises already starting to emerge on my skin. 2 thoughts on “ Hunter. April 6, 2016 at 10:48 am. Writing from the head and the heart. Don’t tell George, but I’m an editor as well as a writer. (Actually, do tell him if you wish it turns out that he’s one too.) And though I see that in some cases he may have a point if you don’t believe me, ask Raymond Carver about Gordon Lish. Would you feel happy about employing a carpenter who turned up for work lugging a bag of blunt chisels? It will only need doing once. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Writing from the head and the heart. 8216;I write with myself in mind as the performer,’ she says. ‘It might be different if I were writing for other people.’. And have other people tried to perform her work? All well and good, but is sound enough by itself to define her work as poetry? Gaddafi Gaddafi until, Gaddafi at last. Gaddafi one morning, Gaddafi Gaddafi Gaddafi. One morning the word. Is the same as all other words gaddafi gaddafi. And we keep on chanting gaddafi gaddafi gaddafi. 8216;Thinking ab...
