Why is /r/GirlGamers a thing? R/gaming is not gender specific.". I originally posted this as a comment. In the /r/GirlGamers community. It was in response to a user who questioned why there was a need for such a gendered community when reddit's main gaming community ( /r/gaming. Is, at least structurally, gender-neutral. I originally posted this as a comment on reddit. In the /r/Games community. It was a response to this post. About a widespread lack of games with strong messages. Instead, a lot of it is left up to interpretation - a remnant of "player agency" from game design seeping into messaging (i.e. we have to let the players decide what to do in the game as well as interpret how to perceive the story).
