Chad's Other Blog: Ethics and Intelligent Systems
http://blog.chadfrost.com/2011/04/ethics-and-intelligent-systems.html
Monday, April 25, 2011. Ethics and Intelligent Systems. This isn't by any means a new topic; Asimov codified it in his famous Three Laws. Back in 1942; and Wired ran an article. In 2005 that considered some of the broader ethical implications of introducing ever-more-humanoid machines into society. There now seems to be a burgeoning discussion on this topic, spread widely:. Illah Nourbakhsh's lecture (below) has spawned a CMU class: http:/ ethicsandrobotics.posterous.com/. View my complete profile. Water...

Chad's Other Blog: Suffering for the cause
http://blog.chadfrost.com/2011/05/suffering-for-cause.html
Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Suffering for the cause. Last week, the Amgen Tour of California bike race came through town. Last year, we went to watch the local stage, and despite the rain/drizzle/general wetness, had a fun time hanging out with friends and new acquaintances on the side of the road. We had such a fine time, in fact, that we figured we just *had* to do it again this year. My compromise: do both! We hung out for a while and enjoyed our lunch - Anna had packed quite the gourmet picnic. The li...

Friday, August 29, 2014. Raspberry Pi fun and games. While I continue to find good uses for Arduinos and such small microcontrollers, lately I've been playing around quite a bit with the Raspberry Pi. I got one last year, and fairly quickly set it up to be my surrogate Dropbox, using BTSync. It has been happily chugging along in that role ever since, connected to a small 100GB hard drive and living on my workbench in the garage. So, having downloaded and installed a plethora of software libraries on the ...

Chad's Other Blog: Dear Sir
http://blog.chadfrost.com/2013/12/dear-sir.html
Tuesday, December 03, 2013. I'm really sorry for not reacting more maturely to your nearly killing me with your car. After all, I ride by your house twice a day, every single workday. I'm sure I'll have lots of good chances to observe your progression into madness, delusion, and self-loathing as the Christmas cheer merrily eats into your brain. I do hope you'll accept my sincerest apologies for not having more patience, and. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sunnyvale, California, United States. For 18...

Chad's Other Blog: Holiday Electrical Successes and Failures

Saturday, December 28, 2013. Holiday Electrical Successes and Failures. As I'm rattling around the house the past few days recovering from a really poorly-timed evil cold/cough, not feeling well enough to actually go out and do anything but not so bad that I'm flat-out in bed, I figured I'd catch up on some projects. I soldered up the PT100 to a 1/4" stereo phono plug I had from the previous sous vide, plugged everything in, and re-calibrated the PID to the new setup. Looks like it will work great! Explo...

Chad's Other Blog: February 2010
http://blog.chadfrost.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 01, 2010. Dear friends and family: I love you all. I really, really do! It's simple enough to say, and I don't say it enough. So I want you each to know how much I value having you as part of my life. Whether we're riding bikes, going camping, drinking beer, doing chores, reminiscing about fun (and challenging) times we've had, or thinking about what the future holds: I love you. So you might reasonably ask, what spurs me to write such sentimentality on a Monday morning? Well, Heidi Swift.
